Online applications are invited from the eligible candidates to “Workshop Personnel
Officer, S&T Workshop, Southern Railway, Podanur-641 023” for engagement as Trade/Act
Apprentices under Apprentice Act 1961 for the year 2018-19 in various units of Southern Railway
in the stream of Freshers and Ex. ITI in the designated trades subject to their fulfilling the
conditions specified herein. Candidates can submit their application ON LINE only on Website
www.rrcmas.in
The Candidates can apply for only one Nodal Unit of Southern Railway. i.e. Signal &
Telecommunication Workshop/Podanur or Central Workshop, Golden Rock or Carriage Works,
Perambur.
The engagement of trainees will be made on the following designated trades only:

Vacancies indicated above are only tentative and are subject to change and the vacancies
reserved for SC/ST/OBC/PWD are as per the prescribed requirement in the respective
categories.
Eligibility of Person with Disability Candidates:
3% of Act Apprentices to be trained are reserved for Person with Disability persons under
the following physical standards as per the provisions of Schedule-II of Apprenticeship
manual and Railway Boards letter no.E(MPP)2003/6/14 dated:09/12/2003. Training in the
Relevant Trade will subject to Permissible Disability.
Standard of fitness for the Person with Disability Candidates:
Loco motor or Cerebral palsy (OH) who suffers from not less than 40% of relevant
disability.
Hearing Handicapped having 60 Decibels or more in the better ear in the
conversational range eligible to apply.
Low Vision: Person with low vision means a person with impairment of visual
functioning even after treatment or standard refractive corrections but who uses or is
potentially capable of using vision for the planning or execution of a task with
appropriate assistive device.
Person with Disability who wants to avail the benefit of reservation would have to submit
disability certificate by the Central or State Government.
1. Minimum Academic /Technical Qualification as per the Apprentices Act 1961
a) Must have passed 10th class examination under 10 +2 system or its equivalent with
minimum 50% marks in aggregate.
b) Must have passed ITI Course in relevant trades from a recognized institution
c) Must have passed +2 with Science (Physics, Chemistry & Biology) for MLT
Candidates.
Note: Minimum 50% marks in SSLC not applicable for SC/ST/PWD candidates.
Candidates with higher qualifications viz. Diploma/Degree and Course completed
Act Apprentices are not eligible to apply.
2. Age Limit (as on the date of notification ):-
The candidates should have completed 15 years of age and should NOT have
completed 22 /24 years for Freshers/Ex-ITI, MLT Respectively
The upper age is relaxable by 3 Years for OBC candidates, 5 Years for SC/ST
candidates and 10 Years for Persons with disability (PWD).
3. Processing fee (Non-Refundable) Rs.100/-: Fee is to be paid through ONLINE MODE.
No fee is required to be paid by SC/ST/PH/Women candidates.
4. The period of apprenticeship and stipend.
Selected candidates will be engaged as apprentices and they will have to undergo
apprenticeship training as prescribed under Apprenticeship Act & rules.

5. Criteria for preparing merit list in the selection:
The following criteria is prescribed for preparation of merit in the selection:
Taking the average of the percentage marks obtained by the candidates in both
Matriculation [with minimum 50% aggregate marks] and ITI examination giving equal
weightage to both.
6. Standard of Physical Fitness for Training:
Selected Candidates shall have to bring Medical Certificate at the time of document
verification in the prescribed format as per Apprentices Act, 1961 and Para 4 of
Apprenticeship rules, 1992 (as amended from time to time).
The Medical Certificate should be signed by Government Authorised Doctor (Gaz.), not
below the rank of Asst. Surgeon of Central/State Govt Hospital.
7. Engagement & Contract:
The Selected candidates shall be engaged in the unit of their choice subject to the
extent of vacancies and they may have to be engaged in other units coming under
the jurisdiction if so warranted by the administrative requirement.
There is NO GUARENTEE OF EMPLOYMENT and their contract of apprenticeship
will be terminated on of completion training. However 20% of the vacancies in case
of Direct Recruitment through RRC’s will be filled giving preference to Course
completed act apprentices.
They have to execute a contract of apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act -1961
and if such candidate is minor his Guardian can execute the prescribed contract.
