This chapter includes the background of the study, statement of the problem,
hypotheses, and the significance of the study.
Background of the Study
Stains are one of the major problems these days and it can be one of the
most pesky challenges when it comes to removal. Even if we try to do everything in
order to protect the clothes, still we cannot stop stains from developing. A stain is a
discoloration that can be clearly distinguished from the surface, material, or medium it is
found upon. These are caused by either chemical or physical interaction of two
dissimilar materials. Fabric has different stains such as iron rust, chocolate stains,
mildew, yellow spots and many more. This is why people started using synthetic stain
removers which has a solvent that helps to remove the stubborn stains on their clothes.
Hydrogen Peroxide and white vinegar is commonly used in many removals
because Hydrogen Peroxide is slightly more vicious than water while white vinegar is
composed of 5% acetic acid. Calamansi can also be used in removing stains since it is
a Citrus fuit, similar to lemons and it contains citric acid. Both acetic and citric acids
are helpful in removing stains on clothes. In this research, the researchers are not
going to use hydrogen peroxide as a part of the stain remover since it contains
chemicals that might harm the users. Stains happen when the primary method
of stain formation is surface stains, where the staining substance is spilled out onto the
surface or material and is trapped in the fibers, pores, indentations, or other capillary
structures on the surface.
Statement of the Problem
          1. What are the proofs that baking soda and vinegar will remove the stain in
             a cloth?
          2. What are the components of baking soda and vinegar that can remove
             stain?
          3. How long does it take to remove the stain?
          4. How can the community benefit from the stain remover without harming
             the environment?
          5. What type and color of clothes can we use to the stain remover?
          6. What is the difference of stain remover and bleach?
Hypothesis
The calamansi stain remover is one of the easiest way to remove the stain that
you can find at home.
I believe that our stain remover can remove stains more easier without damaging
the shirt and harming the environment as well as the users.
Significance of the study
The study is conducted in order to find a effective way to remove stains by using other
alternative without harming the environment. In this study, the researchers used calamansi and
added other ingredients such as vinegar, baking soda, and water. The ingredients that is needed
in creating this research are very easy to find. It is also very efficient because people don’t
need to worry about removing stains on their clothes, even the colored ones without damaging
it. That’s why you can save your time and money by using this alternative product. It is also
easy to use, all you have to do is to apply the product on the stained area and wait for
minutes. After minutes of waiting you can scrub the stained area and wash it with water. This
study will be beneficial to all as a stain remover for clothes.
