        SCAN-TO-SMB (Scan-To-Desktop)
The Scan to SMB operation is used to send the scanned data of an original document to a shared
folder on a computer on the network.
By registering a destination with a one-touch dial button, paper documents can be converted into data
and sent simply by touching a button in the One-Touch screen.
        SMB is a non-routable protocol.
        SMB uses Ports: 135, 136, 138, 139 and 445
                                                                                                   2|Page

        Setup Procedure:
Confirm the Users and available Shared Folders
        1. We start by going into Computer Management to confirm the existing Users.
        System Tools>Local Users and Groups>Users
(As we can see these are the users currently available on this particular Windows XP Pro SP3
        connected on a Domain.)
                                                                                                  7|Page
Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine
        2. You can also go into Control Panel and take a look into User Accounts.
See if the particular User is listed on the Workstation, if not you can manually add the user.
        3. Another way to confirm the same information is to go into a cmd prompt and type:
                                                                                                         8|Page

Verify the Network information of the Workstation.
        1. In a command prompt, type in: ipconfig /all
Here you will gather the Workstation Host Name, IP Address, WINS and DNS IP Addresses.
You will also gather if the Workstation has a Static IP address or Dynamic.
Note: The IP Address in this Scenario is 10.10.232.63
Here you can also gather the DNS and/or WINS IP Address information.

        1. Here we have the same information but instead of using the IP Address of the Workstation we
used the Computer Name (Host Name).
Note: For the Host Address Name to work you need to have the DNS IP Address entered on the MFP
Note: In this scenario the HOST Name is entered in lower-case.
As a rule to our equipments when using the HOST Name instead of the IP Address, enter the HOST
        Name in Upper-Case.
