DIRECT AND INDIRECT SPEECH I.

STATEMENT
Penghubung : That
Direct Speech (Kalimat Langsung) ialah kata-kata kalimat yang diucapkan langsung oleh
si pembicara. Dalam Indirect Statement kita menggunakan
Indirect Speech (Kalimat Tak Langsung) ialah kalimat yang diucapkan
kata that  (bahwa)untuk melaporkan
sebagai penghubung antara kalimat
kata-katansi pembicara kepada orang lain. Jadi, Indirect Speech (Reported Speech)
pengantar (introduce phrase) dan digunakan

bila kita ingin melaporkan kata-kata seseorang kepadadilaporkan orang lain (reported

Perubahan-perubahan yang perlu dari Direct ke Indirect Speech   :
e.g  - Mary told her friends “I have been to Bali twice.”
1.        To be & Auxiliary Verbs - Mary told her friends that she had been to Bali
Direct                                       Indirect twice.
Am/is/are                    -             was/were -   Father said “I am going out of town
Shall/will                     -             should/would tomorrow”
Can                             -            could -   Father said that he was going out of town
May                             -            might the following day.

  Simple Present Tense, maka kalimat yang dilaporkan
3.        Tenses tidak mengalami perubahan.
Direct                                       Indirect e.g  - John says “I will go to Bandung tomorrow”
Simple present                   -        simple past - John says that he will go to Bandung tomorrow
Simple past  -        past perfect  
Present perfect - Past Perfect -   Mary says “I have seen that film”
Present continous              -        past continous -   Mary says that she has seen that film.
Present perfect continous  -        past perfect continous  
Simple future                     -        past future -   My brother says “I met Tom at the party last
  night”
-   My brother says that he met Tom at the
party last night.
 
-   Tom says “I don’t like English”
-   Tom says that he don’t like English. -  Ira asked tom not to come to her house
again.
 II.      COMMAND  
Command dibagi dalam 2 (dua) bagian yaitu : -  Mothers asked John “Don’t smoke too

-  Mary told me “Stop talking to Jane” (matahari tenggelam di sebelah timur)
-  Mary told me to stop talking to Jane.  He said that the earth revolves around the
  sun (bumi beredar mengelilingi matahari)
-  Mother asked John “Pay attention to

Bila pertanyaan langsung tidak menggunakan IV.   REPORTED SPEECH / MIXED TYPE
kata-kata tanya, dan hanya merupakan pertanyaan (Jenis Gabungan)
dalam bentuk “Yes & No Question”, maka kita
menggunakan kata-kata if, whether (jika, apakah) Bila pertanyaan dan pernyataan digabung dalam
sebagai penghubung antara kalimat pengantar dan Reported Speech maka kita menggunakan kata as
pertanyaan yang dilaporkan. (karena) sebagai penghubung pada bagian kalimat
pernyataan yang dilaporkan. Dalam hal ini kalimat
  pernyataan tersebut dilaporkan kemudian.
Perhatikanlah contoh-contoh berikut ini :

B. He said his name might Daniel Hamilton.
