TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR WOOLEN SOCKS
1.0 SCOPE & APPLICATION:
The specification prescribes requirements for Woolen Socks for use in oil field areas and general
application
2.0 GENERAL FEATURES:
2.1 Woolen socks generally conform to IS: 2187
2.2 The socks shall be free from objectionable flaws. The objectionable flaws shall be those
which strike immediately the eyes and shall be deemed included: Noticeable broken thread in the
body, Large mends, Ladders, Dropped stitches, Noticeable oil or other, Holes, cuts or tears,
Uneven dyeing & Streak ness. Any other defect which may significantly more the appearance or
serviceability of socks.
2.3 The socks shall be matched and paired according to their shade and size. A tolerance of ± 15
mm on each length of the socks shall, however, be permissible while pairing.
2.4 Socks shall be well knit and seamless with secure 4 course welt made either in one step or in
two steps of two courses each. The top of the socks shall be knitted in 1 x 1 rib and the leg and
foot portions shall be knitted plain.
2.5 The splicing shall be even, free from creases and folds, and similar in construction to the
fabric of the socks.
3.0 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION:

Note:
(1) Socks sizes: 25 to 31 corresponds to foot length with tolerance of
± 0.5 cm 15
Example: 30 size socks are the socks having foot length of 30 cm.
Length Tolerance: + 2.5 to 1 cm
(2) Yarn Composition (Tolerance) - The percentage of nylon and viscose rayon each shall be 13
to 16 and the balance shall be wool.
3.1 Colour fastness to Light, Washing, Change in colour, Perspiration and Rubbing shall be 4 or
better
4.0 MARKING: Each card board box of socks shall have following information (Printed)
i) Size
ii) No. of pairs packed in the package
iii) Manufacturer name or trade marks
iv) Date of manufacture
v) Blend composition in the descending order.
5.0 PACKING:
5.1 Each pair of socks shall be suitably clipped at the heel, toe and top portion. Each folded pair
shall be placed in a polythene bag. A suitable monitor of such bags (6 or 12 pairs) shall be placed
in a card board of suitable size.
5.2 Preservation - The socks shall be preserved with a heavy dose of naphthalene in each card
board
6.0 DOCUMENTATION & INSPECTION:
6.1 Bidder may be asked to provide relevant test certificate from Govt./Govt. approved lab along
with the offer and test reports are to be presented to ONGC inspecting authority for review.
6.2 Warranty/Guarantee certificates to be supplied along with the item.
6.3 Inspection to be carried out jointly by the representative of the quality
assurance department and the indentor as per QAD inspection procedure.
