Changes
The following changes have been made as compared to Test Specification PV 3307, 1999-02:
Standard completely revised
Previous issues

1 Scope
This test specification describes a test procedure for determining plastic and elastic deformation
behavior under defined test conditions. It shall be used for elastomer components that are subject
to compressive loads in practical use.
2 Designation
Test duration, test temperature and limit values shall be adapted to the respective requirements.
Example:
Permanent deformation according to PV 3307, 46 h at +70 °C, ≤ 60%
3 Test method
3.1 Test equipment
3.1.1 Thickness gage
See Figure 1.
Accuracy of reading 0.01 mm
Weight (preload) 0.45 N to 0.75 N
Mandrel diameter 2.5 mm
Other mandrels, in particular those with a shape and/or diameter deviating from the mandrel
described above, are subject to agreement. This shall be noted accordingly in the test record.

3.1.2 Specimens
Diameter approx. 15 mm, preferred thickness 2.0 mm. Other specimen thicknesses may be
agreed upon.
3.2 Test procedure
Specimens prepared from finished parts or test panels shall be compressed in the middle by 50%
of their initial thickness in accordance with the test diagram (see Figure 3). The test medium shall
be matched to the practical application of the product in question. Aging may be performed at room
temperature, elevated temperature, under the influence of liquids, etc. The standard test times
are 22 h, 46 h and 94 h.
Specimens aged at elevated temperature shall be acclimatized for 3 h at room temperature before
being unloaded.
The measurements shall be performed 5 s after unloading.

3.4 Evaluation
The permanent deformation is calculated according to the following formula:
h0 − h2
x 100 = % permanent deformation
h 0 − h1
h0 = initial thickness
h2 = thickness after unloading
h1 = thickness compressed by 50%
The test results are evaluated by determining the arithmetic mean value of at least three values.
