AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL FRONT AXLE HUB(for 4WD and Pre-Runner) INSTALLATION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

HINT:
· Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
· The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE

1.INSTALL PLUG (for Pre-Runner)

a.

Using SST and a hammer, install a new plug.

09950-70010 (09951-07100)

2.INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB OIL SEAL LH 43502F

a.

Using a brass bar and hammer, tap in a new front axle hub oil seal LH.

3.INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB INNER BEARING LH (for 4WD) 43502M

Using SST and a press, press a new front axle hub inner bearing LH into the front axle hub sub-assembly
LH.

NOTICE:
Insert 4 bolts into the bearing before installing the bearing to the front axle hub sub-assembly LH.

4.INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB INNER BEARING LH (for Pre-Runner) 43502M

a.

Using SST and a press, press a new front axle hub inner bearing LH into the front axle hub sub-assembly
LH.

NOTICE:
Insert 4 bolts into the bearing before installing the bearing to the front axle hub sub-assembly LH.

b.

Using SST, install a new adjusting nut.

Torque:
274 N*m (2794 kgf*cm, 202 ft.*lbf)

c.

Using SST and a hammer, stake the adjusting nut.

a. Apply MP grease to a new O-ring.

b. Install the O-ring to the axle hub.

c. Install the dust cover and front axle hub sub-assembly LH to the steering knuckle LH with the 4 bolts.
Torque:
Specified tightening torque : 80 N*m (816 kgf*cm, 59 ft.*lbf)

HINT:
· Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

· When using a ball joint lock nut wrench (fulcrum length of 149 mm (5.866 in.)) + torque wrench
(fulcrum length of 380 mm (14.961 in.)): 57.5 N*m (586 kgf*cm, 42 ft.*lbf).

6.INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for Pre-Runner) 43502C

a.

Apply MP grease to a new O-ring.

b. Install the O-ring to the axle hub.

c. Install the dust cover and front axle hub sub-assembly LH to the steering knuckle LH with the 4 bolts.
Torque:
Specified tightening torque : 80 N*m (816 kgf*cm, 59 ft.*lbf)

HINT:
· Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

· When using a ball joint lock nut wrench (fulcrum length of 149 mm (5.866 in.)) + torque wrench
(fulcrum length of 380 mm (14.961 in.)): 57.5 N*m (586 kgf*cm, 42 ft.*lbf).

7.INSTALL FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT LH (for 4WD) 43502H

a. Clean the threaded parts on the drive shaft and front axle shaft nut LH using a non-residue solvent.

b. Install the front axle shaft nut LH.


Torque:
235 N*m (2396 kgf*cm, 173 ft.*lbf)

c. Install the adjusting cap and a new cotter pin.


NOTICE:
If the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.

8.INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP LH (for 4WD) 43514C

a. Install a new front axle hub grease cap LH to the front axle hub sub-assembly LH.

9.INSTALL FRONT DISC 43512

10.INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH 47750
