SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:

I have used two decrease stitch techniques:

1. DC2tog hook into 1 stitch yarn over pull yarn through, hook into next stitch yarn over pull yarn

through, yarn around hook, pull through all 3 stitches on the hook to decrease by one stitch = Double

crochet two stitches together

DC3tog hook into 3 stitches yarn over and pull yarn through each time, yarn around hook, pull through

all 4 stitches on the hook to decrease by two stitches = Double crochet three stitches together

And one increase stitch technique

For example 3DC in 1dc hook into stitch, yarn around, pull through both stitches on the hook, hook into

same stitch again yarn around pull through both stitches on the hook, and again yarn around pull through

both stitches on the hook to increase two stitches

GENERAL ABBREVIATIONS UK terminology:

CH = Chain

DC = Double Crochet (hook into stitch, yarn around, pull yarn through both stitches on the hook also

known as SC (US term)

HTR = Half treble crochet (yarn over hook, hook into stitch, yarn around, pull yarn through all three

stitches on the hook, also known as HDC (US term)

TR = Treble crochet (yarn over hook, hook into stitch, yarn around, pull yarn through 1 stitch, yarn over

and pull through first 2 loops, yarn over again and pull through remaining two loops on hook, also known

as DC (US term)

Sl St = Slip stitch hook into stitch, yarn over hook and pull the stitch through the stitch on the hook

inc = increase dec = decrease

RH/LH = right hand/ left hand RS/WS = right side/ wrong side

st/ sts =stitch/ stitches

Before you continue it’s important to make sure that you have the correct
alignment as crochet has a tendency to twist out of shape a little.
So, flatten the back and flatten the belly and adjust the crochet so that the

HIND LEGS (if you are following the chart work from ‘Hind Leg’)
The Hind Legs are knitted independently and sewn on, with wires (optional)
after you’ve crocheted them, as follows:

Left and Right Hind Legs are worked similarly

Each Leg is worked in rows then rounds of double crochet (DC) and half
treble crochet (HTR), starting with a row of chain stitches as follows:
Row 1. With yarn A make 24 chain

To join the Legs

Ref. Figs. 14 & 15
You’ll find that the crochet naturally curls in on itself, curling in to what is the RS of
the crochet which means the WS of the crochet becomes the outside of the leg - this is
correct for this pattern.
Once curled inwards you can quickly join along the back leg seam, lacing the stitches
by sewing in and out at the same time joining the two edges together - joining around
wire that has been wrapped with yarn if you want an armature (there is more detail
about the armature on the next page).
At the foot, leave the toes splayed outwards and simply join behind the toes to close
up the hind leg seam (and keep the wire in place if using).**
