Tension The tensions for the patterns in this book have been based on Patons DK tensions over stocking st as detailed below. On 3% mm needles — 23 sts and 31 rows to10 cm. On 4 mm needles — 22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm. Caution It is important to work to the stated tension and we cannot accept responsibility for the finished product if any yarn other than the specified yarn is used. Quantities of yarn are approximate as they are based on average requirements. IL Zé (A) Attach one end to a hook or door handle or get a friend to hold it. Insert a knitting needle through other end and turn clockwise until strands are tightly twisted together. . Skirt BACK AND FRONT ALIKE With 334 mm needles and MS, cast on 15 sts. Rib row 1— (RS), K1, * P1, K1; rep from * to end. Rib row 2 — P1, * K1, Pl; rep from * to end. ‘Change to 4 mm needles and work in stocking st, starting knit, until piece measures 7 cm ending with RS facing for next row. Decrease row — * K2tog tbl, K2, K2tog’, K3; rep from “to *. 11 sts rem. Purl 1 row. Change to 3% mm needles and work 3 rows in rib as given above. Cast off loosely in rib. MAKE UP Join side seams leaving top rib and 1 cm of one seam open. Sew press stud to opening. Jacket BACK With 4 mm needles and MS, cast on17 sts and work 10 rows in stocking st, starting knit. Shape armholes Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 13 sts rem. Work 10 rows straight. Cast off. LEFT FRONT With 4 mm needles and MS, cast on 9 sts and work 10 rows in stocking st, starting knit (work 1 row here for Right Front). Shape armhole Cast off 2 sts at beg of next row. 7 sts rem. Work 6 rows straight. Shape neck Cast off 2 sts at beg of next row. Dec1 st at neck edge on next row. 4 sts rem. Work 3 rows straight (work 1 row less here for Right Front). Cast off. RIGHT FRONT Work as given for Left Front working 1 row more and 1 row less where indicated. SLEEVES Join shoulder seams. With 4 mm needles and MS knit up 16 sts evenly along armhole edge between cast off sts. Work 3 rows in stocking st, starting purl. Shape sides by dec 1 st at each end of next and foll 6th row. 12 sts rem. Work 5 rows straight. Cast off loosely. MAKE UP Front and Neck Edging With 3% mm needles and C, with RS facing and starting at lower edge of right front, knit up 14 sts up right front edge, 5 sts up right front neck, 5 sts across back neck, 5 sts down left front neck and 14 sts down left front edge. 43 sts. Cast off loosely knitwise. Join side seams. Lower Edging With 3% mm needles and C and with RS facing, knit up 32 sts along lower edge. Cast off loosely knitwise. Join edging. Sleeve Edging With 3% mm needles and C and with RS facing, knit up 10 sts along sleeve edge. Cast off knitwise. Join sleeve seams gathering seam slightly. Pockets (Make 2} With 4 mm needles and C, cast on 4 sts. Cast off knitwise. Sew to fronts of Jacket as illustrated. Sew 3 press studs to front opening. Sew on sequins or beads to correspond with press studs. Hat With 3 mm crochet hook and MS make 2 ch. Round 1 — Work 6 dc into 2nd ch from hook, sl st into first de. Round 2 — 1 ch, work 2 de into each de, s| st into first de. 12 dc. Round 3 — 1 ch, (work 1 dc into next dec, 2 dc into next dc) 6 times, s| st into first de. 18 de. Round 4 — 1 ch, (work 1 dc into each of next 2 de, 2 de into next dc) 6 times, sl st into first de. 24 de. Round 5 — Working into back loop only of each st, work 1 dc into each dc to end, sl st into first de. Decrease round—1ch,(work1dcintoeach of next 6 dc, dc2tog) 3 times. 21 dc rem. Work 2 rounds without decreasing. Fasten off. Bow With 3 mm crochet hook and MS make 11 ch, work 1 tr into 4th ch from hook, 1 htr into next ch, 1 de into next ch, 1 sl st into next ch, 1 de into next ch, 1 htr into next ch and 1 tr into each of last 2 ch. Fasten off. Sew bow to back of Hat. Bag With 334 mm needles and MS, cast on 9 sts. Row 1—K1, "Pl, K1; rep from * to end. Rep this row 17 times more. Tie a marker at each end of last row, then work 4 more rows. Shape flap Row 1 — P2tog, K1, (P1, K1) twice, P2tog. 7 sts rem. Row 2—K2tog, P1,K1,P1, K2tog. 5 sts rem. Row 3 —P2tog, K1, P2tog. 3 sts rem. Row 4—SLIK, K2tog, psso. Fasten off. Fold piece so that cast on edge is level with markers and join side seams. Fold flap and catch down with a gold sequin. With gold braid make a twisted cord approximately 15 cm lang. Join ends to each corner of bag for strap. For tension, notes and abbreviations, see first page of text. Swimsuit FRONT With A, cast on 4 sts and work 4 rows in stocking st, starting knit. Row 5 — K1, M1, K2, M1, K1. 6 sts. Row 6 — Purl. Row 7 — Ki, M1, K4, M1, K1. 8 sts. Cont inc in this way on every alt row until there are 14 sts. Purl 1 row. Next row — K2, sLIK, K2tog, psso, K4, K3tog, K2. 10 sts rem **. Next row — Purl. Next row — K3, M1, K4, M1, K3. 12 sts. Next row — Purl. Next row — K4, M1, K4, M1, K4. 14 sts. Cont to inc in this way on every alt row until there are 22 sts. Work 3 rows straight. Next row — Cast off 3 sts, knit until there are 3 sts on right-hand needle, cast off next 10 sts, knit until there are 3 sts on right-hand needle after casting off, cast off rem 3 sts. Break yarn. Straps With WS facing rejoin yarn to first set of 3 sts and work 15 rows in stocking st, starting purl. Cast off. Work 2nd strap as given for first. Work 17 rows MAKE UP Join crutch and side seams. Sew straps to back 1 st in from each side edge. Separate the strands of a length of C. Using 2 strands only, embroider ‘S’ shapes as illustrated. T-Shirt BACK AND FRONT ALIKE With B, cast on 21 sts and work 3 rows in garter st (every row knit), Change to stocking st, starting knit, and work 32 rows. Shape neck Next row — K7, cast off next 7 sts, K to end. Work on these 7 sts first. Work 3 rows straight. Cast off. With WS facing rejoin yarn to rem 7 sts and work 3 rows straight. Cast off. SLEEVES With B, cast on 14 sts and work 8 rows in stocking st, starting knit. Cast off. MAKE UP Embroider front of T-Shirt as shown in Chart 1. Join shoulder seams. Sew cast off edge of sleeves to side edge placing centre at shoulder seam. Join side and sleeve seams. Towel Using A, cast on 35 sts. Row 1 — Knit. Row 2 — K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2. Keeping garter st edge correct, work 6 more rows in A, 38 rows in B and 8 rows in A. Cast off. Embroider towel as shown in Chart 2. FRINGE * Cut 2 lengths of A each 7 cm long. Fold these in half and pull centre through first st at cast on edge, bring ends through centre of loop and pull to tighten knot (1 tassel made). Rep from * along cast on and cast off edges, working 1 tassel into every alt st. Trim ends of tassels.
