INTRODUCTION AND CONFIGURATION

PLC, HMI and different Networks in Cooperation

HMI and networks

Network support, communication between

ETHERNET devices and data exchange are all standard
features in today’s factory automation sys-
tems. The HMI control units and process
visualisation software provide full support
for the commonest standard networks.
MELSECNET The control units are normally connected
to the PLC’s RS422 port, which provides a
1:1 link. In MELSECNET the control units
can be configured as slaves. If you require a
standard open network you can choose
between PROFIBUS/DP, CC-Link and Ether-
net TCP/IP.
A unique option is the 1:n link provided

BASICS
The graphic operator terminals A950 GOT and A953GOT are ideal
for the first step into the HMI world. They provide a full-graphic
and touch-sensitive user surface. The operator terminals have an
internal 1MB Flash-memory, that can be used to save the O/S and
application information.
The communication can be performed with the RS422 (A950GOT)
or the RS232 interface (A953GOT).
These operator terminals can be connected to all MELSEC PLC sys-
tems and support also the connection to all major PLC manufac-
tures. The communication ban be made via the CPU port or Com-
puter-Link for MELSEC PLC systems.

“Dialog blocks” consisting of text and/or

graphics form the basis of all MAC E appli-
cations. Via the object-orientated program-
ming system, each dialog block displays all
signals and values allocated to the
object in digital and analog form.
The individual dialog blocks that make
up a MAC E application form a hierarchical
tree structure with the needed function
assigned to each dialog block. Thus, they
are adopted to the machine and process
functions. The result is a clear operator
guidance with a clear information flow and
clear text messages in case of an error.

Text and graphic blocks return static or

dynamic information to the operator.
Text blocks display numeric values and
text. The display supports scrolling, so the
size of textblocks is not limited by the
number of lines on the screen.
The blocks can be output to a printer
under PLC control.
The graphics block size is limited by the
display which has a resolution of
240 x 64 pixel up to 640 x 480 pixel.
Static objects for example, can be dis-
played in different font sizes or with prede-
fined graphic objects.
Dynamic objects are predefined as well for
easier application development and can be
scaled to any size.

Communications
All MAC E series control units are fitted
RS232C with an RS422 interface for connection to
the PLC.
Except of the MAC E50 all units provide an

BASICS
RS232C interface for connecting a printer
or PC to the terminal.
This second port enables the unit to be run
NO-Protocol Mode in transparent mode.
This means that the MAC E series is capable
of communicating simultaneously with
both the connected PLC system and a PC
(via the MX SCADA or GX IEC Developer
software).
The MAC E units can also be linked to the
PC via modem.
Another communications option is the
Ethernet no-protocol mode for the connection of
serial peripheral devices (e.g. bar-code
readers).

Networking Ethernet
With the communications interface
MAC-IFC-ETCX (-ETTP) an Ethernet network
can be realized. Within this network up
to 30 stations can be connected to one PLC
in a segment.
The connection to open networks can be
established through an optional interface Dual Driver
for PROFIBUS/DP with a transfer rate of up
to 12 Mbit.

Dual Driver PROFIBUS/DP

The Dual Driver is used to connect different
network types. This is possible with MAC E
series operator terminals with O/S version 6
and higher (not for MAC E50).
The shown configuration is only possible
with operator terminals which are pro-
vided with two extension slots (from
MAC E700/E710/E900T/E910T).

BASICS
An IPC of the PALA series captivates by its excellent display, highest
quality of workmanship, and best hardware performance.
The units IPC-PALA-1210/1510-NT are equipped with a Pentium® III
850 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM, a floppy disk drive, a CD-ROM
drive, and a 30 GB hard disk drive. Thanks to the variety of the inte-
grated interfaces you are capable of integrating this IPC into any
system.
The optimum application range of the external touch-screen dis-
play IPC-PALA-D1510-Monitor is the combination with the
IPC-BX/L600-CP-NT or with a Q-PC – but also any other PC can be
connected via the RGB signal.

왎 GT SoftGOT þ GOT o FX-DU o MAC

Programming of PC-based HMI systems

GT SoftGOT is a PC based HMI that can be integrated into all
BASICS

MELSEC systems. For this integration the communications can be

established via Ethernet, Computer-Link, CPU port with Q-PC to
the Q bus directly via the backbone bus of the System Q. Therefore,
all opportunities for the integration of the system into the respec-
tive application are available to the user. In addition, multiple GT
SoftGOT systems can be integrated into one application to gain
access to the most different positions.
A further feature of the new software by Mitsubishi Electric is the
implemented e-mail function: By sending messages directly to
another PC or a mobile phone the user enables the service staff to
inform about the machine data at once.
The applications are visualized in the graphical resolutions
640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, or 1280 x 1024. Therefore, the
user can individually arrange a perfectly tuned constellation of PC
and monitor.
