Stuff upper part of the body and neck really well.

Stuffing should be firm, but not disfiguring. Without
cutting the yarn, proceed to work on the head.

@lesena_toys_pattern 11
HEAD:
Pay attention to marker yarn. Stuff as you go, firm,
but not rock hard, leave room for sculpting.

44 round 10sc, Inc х4, 10sc (28)

54 round (5sc, Dec) х6, 1sc (37)

If you are using safety toy nose, install it to a place where middle
of the face marker is at.

Let’s attach ears now. Make sure that right side of ears is pointing
forward. Places of attachment is indicated in square brackets, for
example: [2]-ear

55 round 7sc, [2]-ear, 19sc, [2]-ear, 7sc (37)

59 round (1sc, Dec, 1sc) х6 (18)
60 round (1sc, Dec) х6 (12)
61 round Dec х6 (6)

Finish stuffing the head. Pull remaining hole closed

and hide yarn tail inside the head.

@lesena_toys_pattern 12
MOLDING:

Shape the nose out of any black polymer clay (see video).
Approximate size is:7х10mm. Bake according manufacturer’s
instructions. I bake for 8-10 minutes at 180*C.
After it has been cooled completely, apply lacquer,
but this is optional. Glue the nose around 49-52 rows.

Molding nose (variant 1)

Molding nose (variant 2)

@lesena_toys_pattern 13
ASSEMBLY:
1. Mark the points for eyes and mouth with pins:
Point 1 and 3 are located in 52-53 rows approximately 8 stitches apart.
Point 2 and 4 are located in 53-54 rows, 10 stitches apart.
Point 5 and 6 are located in 46-47 rows, 1 stitch apart.

2. With strong thread sculpt eyes and mouth

going in following order: 5-1-2-6-5-2-1-3-4-5-6-4-3-5.
Pull the thread and repeat one more time in the same
order. Tie ends together and hide inside the head.

3. Brush the entire toy really well with Velcro.

To make “fur” look better, spray some water on the
surface every now and then. Trim tips of paws and
ears, making velvety look.

4. Look up any picture of groundhog on the internet

and carefully apply color accents on your figurine.
I use art pastel or sketch markers.
- around eye sockets and mouth
- around nose and nose bridge
- on inner side of the ears
- line on the back of his head and back
- tips of paws
- alongside tail and a little more to the end of it.

These are signature dark spots of groundhog. The

rest of color accents are up to you. Keep chosen
picture as your orienteer. After you are finished with
colors, let figurine dry completely. After that carefully
brush some more with Velcro.

5. Glue the nose around 49-52 rows.

@lesena_toys_pattern 14
DECORATION:
6. Sew lip and embroider teeth. Embroider teeth
with white yarn, like Iris. Insert your needle into eye
socket and take it out where you are planning to
make teeth. Make 2 horizontal stitches and then
wrap yarn around them. Wrapping should be pretty
tough so that “teeth” are straight. After that, glue
teeth to upper jaw with a little bit of glue.

7. Glue the eyes, making sure they are

symmetrical.

8. Making eyelids. First, place pins to the corners

of the eyes. With the same yarn that was used to
crochet the groundhog, embroider eyelids in
following order: 0-1-2-4-5-1-3-4-6-0. Where 0 – any
point on the back of the head. Optionally, you can
reinforce upper eyelid with a drop of glue.

9. Stand your groundhog up, bending his legs

at 90' angle. Bend tips of the arms towards chest
a little bit.

10. Brush the groundhog, carefully directing

hair from top to bottom.

Congrats!
Your sweet groundhog is finished!
