ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, formerly known as the Demographic Training and Research Centre (DTRC till 1970), was established in July 1956 under
the joint sponsorship of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government of India, and the United Nations. The Institute was declared as “Deemed to be University” on August 19, 1985, under Section
3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The objective of the Institute is to train persons from India and foreign countries in the field
of Population Sciences, Demography, and allied subjects. The Institute has trained many students from the ESCAP region including Africa and North America. The IIPS alumni are
occupying prestigious positions in the National and International Research Organisations like WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNAID, Universities, Development Agencies, and Non-Governmental
Organizations. The IIPS also provides services of research, evaluation, training, consultation to government departments, International Organizations, and Public Organizations. The
University has been accredited with an "A‟ grade by the NAAC.
ABOUT CDOE
The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), formerly known as the Department of Extra Mural Studies and Distance Education at the International Institute for Population
Sciences (IIPS), was established in 1994 to promote the discipline of 'Population Studies.' Since its inception, the Centre has been dedicated to providing high-quality education and
training specially designed for working professionals through distance learning. Initially, the Centre introduced the Master of Population Studies (MPS) and Distance in Population Studies
(DPS) Programmes. Currently, the Centre offers the 'M.A. in Population Studies' programme, a need-based course recommended by the UGC, focusing on population data analysis and
the interrelationship between population and development.
About the Programme:
IIPS is commencing its 7th Batch M.A. in Population Studies, a Two-year Programme through Distance Mode for the academic session of July-August 2024. The programme is approved
by the University Grants Commission (UGC)- Distance Education Bureau (DEB). The programme consists of a total of 74 credits, which includes two Foundation Papers, fifteen Core
Papers, and one Optional Paper. Overall, there are 18 papers designed for this course.
Eligibility: Examination and evaluation:
Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in India or abroad in any subject with a minimum of 50% The program's evaluation involves continuous assessment through
marks (45% for reserved candidates). Reservation criteria will be followed as per the Government of India assignments (30% weightage) and semester-end examinations (70%
