                        Classification Section
Classification:
In this section I learned
        What is classification?
Library Classification or Classification or Book Classification or Bibliographic
Classification is the process of arranging, grouping, coding, and organizing books
and other library materials (e.g., serials, sound recordings, moving images,
cartographic materials, manuscripts, computer files, e-resources etc.)
    Classification scheme
A classification system uses letters and/or numbers (call
numbers) to arrange the books so that books on the same
topic are together. This arrangement results in
"serendipitous browsing:" you find one book in the catalog,
go to the shelf, and, an even better book is sitting right next
             to it.
 DDC Volumes
The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), colloquially known
as the Dewey Decimal System, is a proprietary library
classification system which allows new books to be added to
a library in their appropriate location based on subject. It
was first published in the United States by Melvil Dewey in
         1876.
 10 Main classes
     o 000—Computer Science, Information, & General Works
     o 100—Philosophy & Psychology
     o 200—Religion
     o 300—Social Sciences
     o 400—Language
     o 500—Science
     o 600—Technology
     o 700—Arts & Recreation
     o 800—Literature
     o 900—History & Geography
 Tables
There are seven tables in DDC.
  Purpose of the DDC table
o Provide notation used to build specific class numbers. To a
DDC number defined or provided for in the schedules, the
classifier adds table notation to represent a subdivision of
      the class.
o Serve only to extend schedule numbers; cannot be used
      alone to classify an item.
 Number Building
Number building in DDC normally takes one of three forms:
              • adding from the tables in volume 1. • adding from special
tables in the schedules. • adding notation from other classes
              in the scheme
Practice to allocate DDC No. according to book titles.
   Some Famous DDC Number:

But on the other hand I arranged CDs and weed the audio caste, DVDs
and video tape. We found the 5 CDs among the 10000 CDs it’s a very
great task for us and interesting.
Conclusion:
I have learnt so much in this journey of internship. The outcome of
working at one of the best institutions is the best. Learned practically in
these fields. Get your hands on some of the new software. I had the
opportunity to work practically in every department, and I learned so
much from the supervisors. Internship is an integral part of the
Information science education. Historically the professions of
information science has considered internship as a primary means of
providing student opportunity to acquire knowledge, value and skills.
The whole staff is so good and cooperative and they teach so well. I
would like to say I had a great experience in UMT library while doing
my internship.
THANK YOU
