Long Lean Links – Super Bulky Cowl

Overview:
A fast and easy knit.
Great for beginning cable knitters or a last minute gift.
A simple trick in construction alters a regular cable twist into link shapes.
One large button goes thru any cable join to adjust.
Pattern may be continued for a full scarf.

Materials:
109 yards (100 m) Extra Super Bulky yarn @ 3 WPI - Sample used Schulana 'Cortina'
(50 m/54 yds each) in red or 4 -5 balls for full length scarf
US 13 (9 mm) Needles
Cable needle
Row Counter
Darning Needle
T-pins and Blocking Surface
One Large Button

Gauge/measurements:
Gauge not critical but will affect size and yardage.
Sample gauge aprox. 11.5 sts = 4”(10 cm) in stockinette as knit.
Sample measures 4.75 by 34.5” (12 by 88cm) after blocking.

Abbreviations:
BO = bind off
C2 over 2 L = cable 2 left = slp 2 to CN, hold in front, k2, k2 from CN
C2 over 2 R = cable 2 right = slp 2 to CN, hold in back, k2, K2 from CN
C2 over 2LP = cable 2 over 2 purl left = slp 2 to CN, hold in front, p2, k2 from CN
C2 over 2RP = cable 2 over 2 purl right = slp 2 to CN, hold in back, p2, k2 from CN
CO = cast on
CN = cable needle
K = knit
P = purl
Rep = repeat
RS = right side
Slp st = slip stitch = slp 1 p wise with yarn in back
WS = wrong side

Selvages/Slip sts:
First st of every row slipped as follows
slp first st p wise with the yarn at the front
Last st of every row is k

Directions:
CO 18 sts

Work intro rows as follows

R1 (RS): k3, p2, k2, p4, k2, p2, k3


R2 (WS): slp 1, p2, k2, p2, k4, p2, k2, p2, k1
R3: slp 1, k2, p2, k2, p4, k2, p2, k3
R4: slp 1, p2, k2, p2, k4, p2, k2, p2, k1

Rep Rs 3 & 4 , 3 more times, to 10 total intro rows.
