Welcome to the English 2 Self-Learning Module on Recognizing words with opposite


meaning (Antonyms).
This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and
reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

Let us know first the meaning of the following words:
Fraternal twins - are twins that do not look the same.
Gender - means either boy or girl.

The Twins

Julio and Julia are twins but they are different from
most twins. They are boy and girl because they are
fraternal twins. Aside from their different gender, they are
also different in so many ways. Julio has small almond eyes
like their Chinese father while Julia has big round eyes like
their American mother. Julio is outgoing while Julia is shy.
Julio loves outdoor activities while Julia loves to stay indoors
with her books. Julio enjoys listening to loud music unlike
Julia who listens to soft music. Julio and Julia may differ in
so many ways but they both like our native products and
respect our national flag and national anthem. Their
parents love them equally and proud of them for being
nationalistic.

are examples of antonyms.

Antonym – is a word that means the opposite of


another word.

thick – thin long – short
