IV.PROCEDURES
A. INTRODUCTION
- review Recap: Previously, we learned from
- motivation this subject different critical writing
- establiahing purpose of new skills such as
concepts (10 minures) scanning and picking up specific
information from a text, summarizing,
recognizing
the thesis statement or the main
idea, and outlining. Last time, we
also learned the
different critical approaches.
All of those were done in order to
prepare you in writing different
academic texts. And at this point, the
first academic text that you are going
to learn to write is the critique.
B. DEVELOPMENT
Discussion of new lesson Cambridge dictionary defines the
(25 minutes) critique as “a report of something
such as a
political situation or system, or a
person's work or ideas, that
examines it and
provides a judgment, especially a
negative one”. While it is also
related to the word
“criticize”, it is important to note that
the critique does not necessarily
reveal negative
areas in a work or a concept. The
critique aims to understand the

work’s purpose,
intended audience, development of
argument, structure of evidence or
creative style.
It also aims to recognize of the
strengths and weaknesses of the
work.
While the critique is commonly used
to evaluate written works, it can also
be
used to analyze a variety of works
and concepts such as artworks,
film, images,
theatre plays, research, journal
articles, systematic reviews,
theories, news reports,
feature articles and events
Some people think that writing a
critique is a tedious job as it
requires a lot of
knowledge about the material being
examined. Some also think a
critique should be
a very long paper that discusses a
work. But together we will learn the
simplified way
to write a critique in four easy steps
Now if you noticed, these steps are
actually parallel to the parts of a
critique
paper that we studied earlier. The
two methods are actually the same.
The parts are
just differently labelled, as
Feldman’s method is more suitable
for visual arts. The
9
description acts as the introduction,
the analysis and interpretation as
parts of the
