Pumpkin Halloween Bag


Size: Approximately 8” W x 9” L Not including straps

Materials:

Made with worsted weight acrylic yarn such as Red Heart Super Saver or Loops & Thread
Impeccable
Each bag uses one skein of main color (MC) and a small amount of contrasting color (CC)
Googly eyes
Felt:
Pumpkin: black
Monster: black and white
Devil: black and white
Hook US H (5.00 mm)

Gauge: 8 sc x 7 rows = 2 “

beg = beginning
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
tr = treble

Special Instructions:

Pattern written in US Standard terms.


Weave ends as you work.
Stitch count is in ( ) at the end of the round.
When a number precedes a st, such as 3hdc, complete that number of sts in the next st.
Repeat instructions in [ ] as indicated.
Ch 1 at the beginning of the round does not count as a stitch.

Pattern Instructions

Join rounds with slip stitch to first stitch of round.

Basic Bag

Round 1: With MC ch18, hdc in 3 rd ch from hook and in next 15 ch to end 5hdc in last ch; working on other
side of beg ch, hdc in next 15 ch, 4hdc in last ch, join. (40)

Round 2: Ch1, hdc in same st and next 16; [3hdc in next st, hdc in next st] 2 times, hdc next 16 sts, 3hdc in next
st, hdc next st, 3hdc in next st, join. (48)

Round 3: Ch1, hdc in same st and next 18, 2hdc in each of next 4 sts, hdc next 20 sts, 2hdc in each of next 4
sts, hdc in last st, join with sl st to beg hdc. (56)

Round 4: Ch1, working in back loops only, hdc in each st, join. (56)

Round 5 – 17: Ch1, hdc in next st and in each st around, join. (56)

Round 18: Join CC, ch1, sc in same st and in each st around, join. (56)

Round 19: Ch1, sc in same st and in each st around, join. (56)

Round 20: Ch1, dc in next st, work Star Sts all around, join. (28 star sts)

Round 21 – 22: repeat row 19

Round 23: Work a round of twisted sc or crab st, join. Fasten off.

Straps:

Row 1: Join CC about 1½ inches from right edge, ch1, sc in same st and in next 3 sts. (4)

Row 2 – 42: Ch1, turn, sc in each st. (4)

Fasten off leaving a 12 inch strand. With yarn needle, stitch free side of handle on same side of bag 1 ½ inches
from the left edge.

Repeat strap on other side of bag.

Pumpkin Bag

Leaves:

Ch10, turn so back ridge of ch is facing you, working in top loops only, 3dc in 4 th ch from hook, dc next 3 chs,
hdc next ch, sc next ch, sl st in last ch, ch1, sl st in last sl st made (leaf point completed).

Working free loops on the other side of the beg ch, sc next ch, hdc next ch, dc next 3 chs, 3dc in next ch, join
with sl st to top of beg ch3. DO NOT FASTEN OFF.
Stem:

Ch4, sl st in second st from hook and in next two chs, sl st in next dc.

Ch15, turn so that back ridge faces you, working in top loops only, sl st in first ch, sc next two chs, hdc next two
chs, dc next 4 chs, tr st next st, 3tr in next st, join to beg ch (at top of leaf).

Working around other side of ch in loose loop, 3tr in next chj, tr next ch, dc next 4 chs, hdc next 2 chs, sc next
two chs, sl st in last ch. Fasten off.

Fasten leaves to bag as shown in picture.

Face:

Cut mouth, eyes and nose from black felt (use template as a guide) and glue in place on bag. Glue googly eyes
onto felt. The bag is cute without the face too! Use it as a tote, lunch bag or gift bag.
