Construction Notes

The crochet short rows sweater is worked bottom up starting with a sideways
ribbing, then short rows create a triangular section – meaning rows are not
crocheted till the end of the row on one side, then the middle part is worked
across all short rows and another "triangle" oriented in the opposite direction is
worked over the middle part to bring the stitches back to horizontal. Front and
back are each worked separately, shoulder seams are crocheted (or sewn)
together. Then the neck ribbing is worked right onto the neckline. Sleeves are
crocheted flat separately and sewn in afterwards.

not directly into the chain stitch unless stated differently.

Change to your main gauge hook.

instead of Back post stitches.

Front Shoulder 2

With WS facing attach yarn with sl st to the other end of your last row of Upper Front
Part. Use your main gauge hook.
Repeat instructions of Front Shoulder 1. On rows 2 and 4, make BPtr stitches instead
of FPtr sts. Fasten off.

BACK

Repeat the instructions of FRONT starting with the Ribbing up through Upper Front
Part (including) and changing the hooks accordingly.

After finishing the instructions for Upper Front Part, continue to repeat rows 2-3
another two times.
Linda Skuja
Crochet Short Rows Sweater

Back Shoulder 1

Repeat rows 5-6 of Front Shoulder 1. Don't fasten off, continue to crochet the
shoulder seam, or see optional sewing of seam below.

How to crochet the shoulder seams:

put the shoulder of FRONT and BACK parts together RS facing each other (WS out).
Ch 1 (turning ch), insert hook through both loops of front part and both loops of back
part, yo, draw yarn through both parts, yo, draw yarn through both loops on hook
(joining sc made).
Continue to work joining sc as described above across the shoulder, fasten off.

Optional sewing of seam: Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Put the shoulder of FRONT
and BACK parts together RS facing each other (WS out). Thread tail through tapestry
needle and whipstich across shoulder.

Back Shoulder 2

With WS facing, attach yarn with sl st to the other end of your last row of Upper Back
Part. Use your main gauge hook.
Repeat rows 5-6 of Front Shoulder 1.

Crochet the shoulder seam using sc as described in Back Shoulder 1 (work starting
from the outer edge towards the neckline), or sew seam.
Don't fasten off, continue to work Neckline Ribbing.

Neckline Ribbing

Change to your smaller hook. Turn to have RS facing.

Rnd 1: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), work dc along the neckline – spread stitches evenly
around the neckline, working 1 dc in each unworked st at center of Front and Back and
~2 dc in each row end and seam at sides, ending with an odd number of sts. Make the
ribbing sts tightly so they come out elastic. Join with sl st to the top of the ch-2.

Rnds 2-4: Ch 2, (FPdc around next st, BPdc around next st) around, join.
Rnd 5: Sl st around, fasten off.

SLEEVE
Make two

You can go with the sleeve size for your size, or you can put your sweater on (block
before you do so), see where your sleeve will start, add 1" / 2 cm to that measurement
and go with a size that is closer to your measurement.
Feel free to adjust the length of the sleeves as needed by finishing earlier.
How to determine your individual sleeve length: measure from the center back of
your neck to your wrist and record this length. Measure from the center back to the
end of the shoulder of the sweater before working sleeve, subtract this length from
your body measurement to find the difference, stop after any row when the sleeve
matches the difference.

With your main gauge hook, fsc 48 (51, 54, 58, 61) (64, 67, 70, 74).

Sizes 1-3 Only

Row 1: RS. Ch 2, dc across, turn. 48 (51, 54, -, -) (-, -, -, -) sts
Row 2: WS. Ch 3, FPtr across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 2, dc2tog over next 2 sts, dc across until 3 sts remain, dc2tog over next 2
sts, dc in last st, turn. 46 (49, 52, -, -) (-, -, -, -) sts
Row 4: Ch 3, FPtr across, turn.

Keep repeating rows 1-4 until your sleeve length reaches 18 (17.5, 17, -, -) (-, -, -, -)'' /
45.5 (44, 43, -, -) (-, -, -, -) cm, or if you need finishing earlier – subtract 1.5" / 4 cm from
the desired measurement and continue to Sleeve Ribbing.

Sizes 4-7 Only

Row 1: RS. Ch 2, dc across, turn. - (-, -, 58, 61) (64, 67, -, -) sts
Row 2: WS. Ch 3, FPtr across, turn.

sts, dc in last st, turn. - (-, -, 56, 59) (62, 65, -, -) sts
Row 4: Ch 3, FPtr across, turn.

Repeat rows 1-4 another - (-, -, 7, 7) (5, 4, -, -) times, then repeat rows 1-2 until your

Sleeve Ribbing
Measures 1.5'' / 4 cm

Change to your smaller hook.

Row 1:
If your last row was FPtr – ch 2, BPdc across, turn.
If your last row was dc – ch 2, FPdc across, turn.

Row 2: Ch 2, (FPdc around next st, BPdc around next st) across, turn.

Row 3: Continue to work FPdc/BPdc ribbing, working the stitches accordingly: work
FPdc around FPdc (of previous row), and BPdc around BPdc (of previous row).

Continue to repeat row 3 for another 3 rows, or when your ribbing is 1.5'' / 4 cm tall.
Fasten off.

FINISHING

Block all of the pieces of your sweater before sewing the remaining seams. Blocking
will straighten the curvy sides.
Block all pieces according to fiber type (see your yarn label to decide which method is
the best). Leave to dry completely.
Sew both sleeves on, sew the sleeve seams and side seams. Weave in ends. Turn your
sweater RS out.
