Discuss the answers in Worksheet 5 of Week 1.
Expected answers:

1. The shaded part is one-fourth of the given one whole.

A. Reviewing previous lesson
or Presenting the new
lesson
(Balik-aral o pasimula sa bagong
aralin) 2. The shaded part is not one fourth of the given whole.

Ask: Why the shaded part is not one-fourth of the given shape?
B. Establishing a purpose for the State the lesson objectives

aralin)  To divide a given one-whole region into halves; and
 To count the number of halves in one-whole.

C. Presenting examples/ instances Provide the learners with a shape shown below.
of the lesson
(Pag uugnay ng mga halimbawa sa
bagong aralin)

Tell them that the shape is one fourth of a whole region. They have to look around the
classroom for three cutouts identical to the given shape.

Once they have the four identical cutouts, they have to tape them together along their sides.
Finally, they need to trace the resulting one whole.

Each cutout is one fourth of the whole that has been formed. The four cutouts are identical or
have the same size.

Ask:

How about this? Can the figure formed be considered one whole?

How about if I have different pieces such as these? Can we say that the given shape is one-
fourth of the figure formed?

F. Developing Mastery Have the learners work in groups. Divide the class into five groups.
(Leads to Formative Assessment3)
(Paglilinang sa Kabihasan) Group 1: Paper Folding Fractions
Instructions:
 Give each student a sheet of paper.
 Ask them to fold it in half and color one part — label it ½.
 Then fold another paper into four equal parts and color one — label it ¼.
 Discuss how the parts compare in size.

Group 2: Fraction Food Fun

Instructions:
 Show a whole food item (like a pizza).
 Cut it into halves and quarters together as a group.
Group 3: Fraction Match-Up

Group 4: Build-a-Fraction Art

Instructions:
 Students cut out shapes, fold, and cut them into halves or quarters.
 Glue the pieces onto a larger paper to make an image (like a butterfly or robot).
 Label the fractions used (e.g. "The wings are ½ of a circle").
Group 5: Draw a Fraction
Instructions:
 Draw a shape
 Make a pattern/line that shows its one-half and one-fourth.

G. Finding Practical applications of Ask:

Concepts and skills in daily living 1. “Why do you think it’s important to know what ½ and ¼ look like when we cut or

quarters? Why?”
3. “If a whole pizza is cut into 4 pieces, how many do you need to eat to have the same as
one-half? How do you know?”
4.
H. Making Generalizations and To summarize the lesson, ask the learners the following questions:
Abstractions about the lesson
(Paglalahat ng Aralin)
1. How do we form one whole region if one-fourth of it is given?
2. How many one-fourths make one whole?
3. How many one-wholes can be formed given its one-fourth?

I. Evaluating learning
