A translation of 垂涎 (Desire) by 弄简小号
“Tends to cry easily, big watery eyes, slightly red lips, a narrow face, beautiful, fair-
skinned…”
The private room was spacious, and the air conditioning was set to a very low temperature.
Yet, the attendant standing in the far corner couldn’t help but break out in a sweat. He was a
low-grade Alpha. Even though he had been working at this high-end club for over a year and
considered himself somewhat experienced, he had never before been in the same room with
so many fair-skinned, beautiful top-tier Omegas.
The secretary quickly finished reading the summary report, carefully flipping through each
page of the document, before looking up to verify the row of kneeling Omegas. After
repeatedly confirming, he finally handed the stack of papers to the young boss seated on the
sofa.
“The people you’re looking for – thirty-two in total. They’re all here.”
A fair, slender-fingered hand casually flipped through the documents, followed by a soft
disdainful chuckle. The comment was blunt and unfiltered.
“Terrible taste.”
The secretary chimed in from the side, “Sheng Shaoyou never falls in love. He only spends
time with young and attractive Omegas. Though calling it ‘spending time’ is generous, it’s
really just for sex. None of them ever stay for long, but his taste and aesthetic are always
consistent. Someone once joked that, he’s faithful in that way.”
The young boss didn’t say a word, but the secretary had worked alongside him for many
years and could read people exceptionally well.
He noticed his boss' gaze gravitate towards the upper right corner of the profile page.
The profile, compiled personally by the secretary, meticulously documented every detail
about each Omega Sheng Shaoyou had dated. The number noted on the upper right corner
indicated the length of each relationship.
Before his boss could even ask, the attentive secretary had already offered an explanation,
“Out of all his lovers, the longest stayed with him for just six months. His name was Song
Huancheng.”
An Omega in the corner couldn’t help up but glance up at the sound of his own name. The
figure sitting in the center of the room looked formidable, so much so that he didn’t dare look
directly at him, only to steal a quick glimpse. Still, even that didn’t go unnoticed.
Out of the corner of his eye, a beautiful hand rose slightly, casually pointing towards his
direction. The secretary, ever perceptive, immediately called his name again.
“You, come here.”
Song Huancheng was strikingly handsome, especially with the gentle downward tilt at the
corners of his eyes, giving him a particularly tender and innocent expression. He vaguely
knew he’d been singled out because of his brief affair with Sheng Shaoyou all those years
ago.
Song Huancheng came from an ordinary background. His so-called romance with Young
Master Sheng was less of a relationship and more of being kept.
Thanks to his looks and figure, Song Huancheng had since made a name for himself as a
rising idol known for singing and dancing. Today, he was abruptly ‘invited’ over in the
middle of work.
Somone who could navigate the entertainment industry so smoothly was no fool. He was
well aware that someone capable of ‘gathering’ all of Sheng Shaoyou’s ex-lovers in one room
like this wasn’t someone to be taken lightly.
Though feared simmered in his chest, defiance wasn’t an option. Trembling slightly, he
shuffled forward and hastily tried to explain himself.
“President Sheng and I parted ways a long time ago, we haven’t been in contact for years…”
The seated young man didn’t respond to his attempts at an explanation. But contrary to what
one might expect – no harsh interrogation, no threats. Those pampered, well-kept hands held
neither whip nor blade. His slender, pale fingers rested loosely on his knees, and when he
looked over with eyes that seemed to smile, even Song Huancheng who was more than used
to beautiful faces in the entertainment world, couldn’t help but feel a stir in his chest.
The noble young master, exuding effortless elegance, asked in a gentle, pleasant tone:
“You were with him for 6 months?”
His voice was languid and tender.
The young man’s pheromones wasn’t particularly overpowering in strength, yet perhaps the
Omega had come too close. The unusually cold, yet surprisingly pleasant pheromone made
Song Huancheng’s body start to heat up.
It was a primal instinct, hardwired into his genes. The natural submission of an Omega to a
strong Alpha.
Song Huancheng grew even more nervous. His usually articulate tongue now felt tied up in
knots. He lowered his head and answered quietly.
"Y-yes."
The next moment, he felt a firm grip on his chin, forcing Song Huancheng to look up.
In his line of sight, the man who had asked the question earlier tilted his head slightly,
revealing a thin pheromone supressant patch at the back of his pale neck.
Song Huancheng had seen many S-class top-tier Alphas, but had never encountered anyone
who wore a supressant patch yet still exuded such a powerful and domineering pheromone.
The instinct to submit to strength plunged Song Huancheng into a conflicted turmoil, panic
and fear mixed with a desparate desire to get closer. Tears uncontrollably rolled down his
cheeks, falling drop by drop onto the marble floor. His raw reaction filled him with shame,
but his body was completely beyond his control. His heart pounded wildly against his ribs, as
if it might leap out of his chest.
"Don't cry so quickly..." the instigator whispered softly: "First, tell me... What exactly does
Sheng Shaoyou like?"
...
Each of the thirty two Omegas were questioned individually. Although the number was large,
because everyone was sincere and extremely cooperative, the interrogation went remarkably
smoothly.
After they left, the young man finally tore off the now-ineffective pheromone supressant
patch from the back of his neck, and tossed it into the trashbin.
The overwhelming pressure of his pheromones caused the Alpha server standing nearby to
stagger and grasp the wall for support, struggling to steady himself to avoid collapsing.
Breaking out in a cold sweat, he bent down to bring up the trash bin and said, "I'll take out
the trash for you," before quickly escaping the private room.
"One hour and six minutes." The young man glanced at the time and looked up at the
secretary who prepared the suppressant patch for him.
The secretary said helplessly, "I'm truly sorry, but this is the most effective suppressant patch
in the mass production line. Other existing suppressants won't work on you."
Clearly, the explanation didn't satisfy his young boss, so he gritted his teeth and promised,
"But don't worry, I'll urge the lab to expedite their research and design a solution that will
work for you as soon as possible."
...
If you were to trace it back, everything could be traced to that catastrophe years ago.
It all started with just wearing masks. Human society generally believed it was merely a
common cold, no difference except for everyone having to wear a mask.
But as time went on, the situation changed drastically.
Wihin a year, those with 'AB' blood types and other rare blood types died in large numbers.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the world's leading medical laboratories had to
hold press conferences, solemnly reminding the public that the virus attacks more than just
the respiratory tract. It was a type of systematic infection that can affect vision, the heart, and
reproductive functions.
The virus primarily targetted individuals with type 'AB' blood or rare blood types, with a near
100% mortality rate. The next most vulnerable were those with blood types 'A' and 'O', who
had a shocking 86.5% mortality rate. Those with blood type 'B' were relatively fortunate,
with a low rate of severe illness and a mortality rate of only 0.5%.
Even after gaining a preliminary understanding of the virus, the public remained panicked,
blindly following the crowd and rushing to buy up all kinds of medications, all of which
proved ineffective.
The virus can be transmitted through multiple channels, including droplets, aerosols, bodily
fluids, and other means. Its extreme contagiousness and long incubation period made it
impossible for all of humanity to escape.
By the time people truly realised that the virus' primary target was to alter reproductive and
genetic function, it was already too late. The structure of the human population and patterns
of reproduction function had already been fundamentally changed.
According to WHO statistics, after the peak of the pandemic, once the most fortunate 'B'
blood type now comprised 86.9% of the global population. However, the natural conception
rate had fallen to less than 10%.
The theory that the virus causes infertility became prevalent. As investigations deepened,
experts discovered that the virus' influence had led to the development of an ABO gender
system.
Blood tests revealed that beyond distinguishing males and females by chromosomes and sex
organs, the surviving humans were divided into 3 gender categories based on additional sex
markers: Alpha, Beta, and Omega.
Research found that individuals with the Alpha gender, regardless of being biologically male
or female, could impregnate others. Those of the Beta gender had extremely low natural
fertility rates. Meanwhile, Omega individuals, whether biologically male or female, could
conceive.
The findings left medical and biological experts dumbfounded. Though they devoted
themselves to research in hopes of one day overcoming the virus' aftereffects, their efforts
were ultimately in vain.
Time flew by. Many years after the virus' emergence, as its genetic mutations passed through
generations, infected humans eventually developed canine teeth and sex glands. Along with
these changes came innate pheromone scents and periodic heat cycles that began in
adulthood.
A flurry of evidence indicated a reversion to the ancestral past. These were no longer
considered to be side effects of the virus, and the debate shifted from how to cure the virus'
aftermath, to whether these changes were a form of evolution or degeneration.
Time proved to be the best medicine. Those who survived the virus' devastation and their
descendants gradually came to terms with it, and the debate eventually faded.
The massive outbreak and the horrific large-scale deaths finally existed only in textbooks,
neatly summarised in a single page, reduced to just another stage of evolution, no different
than the way early humans early to walk upright.
"...Natural selection, survival of the fittest. Many stubbornly believed that as descendants of
survivors, we have perfectly adapted to ABO society. Since we're born this way, why trace
our origins back to the past..."
The female news anchor's crisp, articulate voice carried a tinge of incitement.
"But in reality, studying human evolution is of great significance. In tracing back, we can
learn from the past and apply it to the present- -"
Then, changing the subject, her tone became serious: "Recently, scientists have discovered
that beyond the commonly known Alpha, Beta, and Omega genders, there may be other
lesser known gender types..."
Sheng Shaoyou took a sip of the whiskey in his hand. He hadn't expected his group of
second-generation** rich friends to be actually watching a popular science program on
human evolution during dinner.
"Recently, everyone's been discussing that S-class Alphas are no longer the upper limit of
humanity, and that the newly discovered Enigmas are..."
"Shaoyou, what do you think?"
"It's a gimmick." Sheng Shaoyou said sharply.
He put down his glass, the dim lights casting a soft glow on his handsome, striking features,
making his features appear particularly defined, his sharp and smooth jawline reflected in the
black glass tabletop of the private room.
