Desert cactus (for Dutch, scroll below)

This cactus is worked in back and forth rows, always in the back loop (BLO) to create a little zigzag
effect. Before you start a new row, always make a chain stitch to turn. You don’t make a single crochet
in this turning chain!

I used green yarn, (durable four) crochet hook 3.5

The number in parentheses always indicates how many stitches this row has.

Trunk:

Make a chain of 41 chainstitches.

1. Start in the 2nd stitch from the hook. Work 40 sc, 1 turning ch.

2. – 22. Crochet 40 sc in the back loop (BLO), 1 turning ch.

Fold the trunk in half. The last row is on the cast-on chain. Crochet the last row onto the cast-on chain
or sew them together with overhand stitches. Make sure you stay in the zigzag pattern. Turn the
trunk inside out. With a darning needle, pass the thread through the top loops of the cylinder, pull,
fasten the thread and tuck it inside. Stuff the trunk firmly with filling cotton.

Side branch small:

Make a chain of 9 chainstitches.

Woestijn cactus
Deze cactus wordt in heen en weer gaande banen gehaakt, steeds in de achterste lus (AL) zodat een
beetje zigzag effect ontstaat. Voor je met een nieuwe toer begint haak je steeds een losse om te
keren. In deze keerlosse wordt nooit een vaste gehaakt!

Groene haakkatoen, (durable four) naald 3.5

Het getal tussen haakjes geeft steeds aan hoeveel steken deze toer heeft.

Stam:

Haak een ketting van 41 l.

1. Begin in de 2 e steek vanaf de naald. Haak 40 v, 1 keerlosse

2. – 22. Haak 40 v in de achterste lus (AL) 1 keerlosse

Vouw het werk dubbel zodat de laatste toer op de opzetketting ligt. Haak de laatste toer vast aan de
opzetketting of naai ze met overhandse steken aan elkaar vast. Zorg dat je hierbij mooi in het zigzag
patroon blijft. Keer de stam binnenstebuiten. Haal met een stopnaald de draad door de bovenste
lussen van de cilinder, trek aan, maak de draad stevig vast en stop hem naar binnen. Vul de stam
stevig op met vulmateriaal.

Zijtak klein:

Haak een ketting van 9 l.

Hecht de draad af, en vlecht een koord met beige, rood en groen, maak dit vast aan de sombrero
zoals op de foto.

Dit is de beschrijving van de potgrond zoals ik die gemaakt heb voor een gewone terracotta bloempot
van 9 cm doorsnee. Maar hoe groot het geheel uitvalt is erg afhankelijk van de dikte van de wol en de
haaknaald die je gebruikt, en of je vast of los haakt. Ik heb gewone haakkatoen Esra van Zeeman
gebruikt en een 2,5 naald. Dat is iets dunner dan het etiket aangeeft maar zeker voor potgrond vind ik
het mooier als het haakwerk zo stevig is dat er geen vulmateriaal doorhaan te zien is. Maar met jouw
manier van haken en jouw materiaal kan het zomaar zijn dat dit patroon veel te groot of te klein
uitvalt. Blijf kijken of het past en begin zo nodig eerder (of later) met minderen!

zodat het gat gedicht is, knoop de draden stevig aan elkaar en stop ze naar binnen. Naai de cactus er
stevig op vast.
