Apple Crumble

Ingredients
Filling Topping Mix
4-6 large apples (1.4kg) 1 cup crushed walnuts or pecans (120g)

¼ cup of sugar (55g) 1 cup all-purpose flour (120g)

1 juice of lemon 1¼ cup rolled oats (150g)

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (15g) ½ cup dark brown sugar (60g)

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (1.5g) 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (3g)

A dash of nutmeg if desired 8 tablespoons cold butter cubed (112g)

Pinch of salt

Method

1. Position an oven rack in the centre of the oven and preheat to 350F/180C.

2. Peel, core and slice apples into ¼” slices. Place apples in a large mixing bowl and
toss with sugar, lemon juice, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour into a lightly greased 9”
by 13” baking dish, and spread out into an even layer. Set aside.

3. In another bowl, mix together the nuts, flour, oats, sugar, cinnamon and salt for the
topping. Cut the cold butter into 8 smaller pieces (approx. 15g cubes) then using a
pastry cutter or your fingers, gently work until pea-sized lumps are formed.

4. Top apples evenly with the mixture and bake until the apples are bubbly and the
topping is golden brown, this should be about 45 minutes, having rotated once halfway
through cooking.

5. Serve warm or at room temperature with ice cream or hot custard.
