Crochet Pattern

Designed by Anna Kravchenko

Dear Crochet Lover,
On these pages you’ll see the fruits of my labour. This pattern (along with my
other patterns) lived quietly on the pages of a notebook, hidden from the rest of
the world. Until finally, I decided to put it into a file and prepare it for sale.
I ask that you respect my work and follow these rules:
° do not distribute this pattern in any way;
° do not share neither the whole file nor its individual parts;
° do not copy any part of it as it is my intellectual property.
You are welcome to distribute the toys made with the pattern either for profit, or
charity.
I would be extremely grateful if you credit me @navjazalamama as the designer
of this pattern while sharing your finished work on social media.
Have fun crocheting!

Belly
Crochet with cream yarn in turning rows:
1. ch 15
2. starting in the 2nd ch from the hook,
crochet: 13 hdc, ch 2 (13)
3-11. (9 rows) 13 hdc, ch 2 (13)

15. hdc dec, 3 hdc, hdc dec (5)
Crochet a border of sc around the belly.
Don’t turn your work, crochet along the
side, work 2 sc in the corner. Along the top
(this side will be under the mouth) crochet:
3 sc, 6 hdc, 3 sc, inc in the corner. Continue
to crochet sc sts along the other side, work
an inc in the corner. 5 sc along the bottom,
finish with a sl st.
Fasten off, leaving a long enough end for
sewing the belly to the body.

Assembly
Use sewing pins to make
sure the belly is attached
symmetrically to the
body and to keep it in
place while sewing.
Start sewing from the tail side (where the end
of the yarn was left). Place the front of the
belly so that the middle matches the middle of
the mouth (where the last rnd was closed).
Stretch the belly part a little. I had only 10
rnds left between the end of the belly and the
tail.

Once you’re done sewing the belly to the body, bring the end of the yarn
to the same spot where the grey end of the yarn is.

Needle Sculpting
Use the grey end of the yarn to indent
the eye sockets in the 11th round from
the centre of the mouth, 1 round
above the white belly. Make a
diagonal stitch (1 st wide), bring the
yarn to the other side of the head and
make an identical diagonal stitch for
the other eye. Pull the end of the yarn
to indent the eye sockets.
Repeat the same steps twice and bring
the end of the yarn back to the white
end of the yarn on top of the head. Tie
the two ends into a knot and hide in
the toy.
Next, shape the tail. Use a 10-15 cm
long piece of grey yarn.
Insert the needle into any spot near the tail. Come out on the side of the
body near the tail (point 1). Run the needle under a sc on the side of a
fluke, about 2 rnds from the needle. Insert the needle into the body on
the side of the tail, close to point 1. Use photos below for reference: green
spot - insert the needle, red spot - come out with the needle. Do this for
both flukes. Repeat the steps twice for a better hold. Bring the ends of
the yarn to the same spot, tie a knot, hide in the toy.

Before the Shaping After the Shaping

Attaching the Flippers

From the middle of the mouth,
count rounds 17, 18, 19 right above
the white belly. Attach the
flippers by these rnds. Make sure
the end of the yarn on the flippers
is pointing towards the tail.
Once the flippers are sewn to the
body, bring the ends of the yarn
to the same spot on the back, tie
a knot, hide in the toy.
With black yarn, embroider the eyes.
Make a few stitches over the shaping
stitches. Use sew-on or glue-on eyes
if preferred. Optionally embroider the
whites of the eyes.
Your whale is ready!
