          NOTES & TECHNIQUES
o Always work in a continuous spiral unless specified otherwise. Do not join with slip stitches or turn.
o When working in rows, always finish the row with a chain 1 and turn, unless specified otherwise. The
turning chain does not count as a stitch.
o When working on foundation chains, crochet into the back bump of the chain to make tighter and
     prettier chains.
o I use the YU/YU or X stitch method because I think it looks nicer and makes tighter stitches, but you can
of course use YO/YU or V stitch if that’s what you prefer.
o Make sure to crochet tightly to avoid holes in your work.
o By default, everything is crocheted with a 2mm hook, only change if the pattern states otherwise.
o If you want to use colored resin eyes instead of safety eyes, I recommend meikyniel’s wonderful tutorial
on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/DFIVEqiv5FT/ (I will not be going into detail on this in this
pattern.) For Zoey’s eyes, I used mica powder in coffee color.
o For decreases, use invisible decreases. You can find a tutorial for it here.
o For fastening off, use invisible fasten off. You can find a tutorial for it here.
o When changing color, change before finishing the last stitch of the previous row for best results.

the 2 chains, coming up to a total of 28 stitches. This will be the new end of

Stuff firmly. Since the head will be pretty heavy, I recommend
also placing a hard wire in the neck section before fastening
off. Make sure to use fairly sturdy wires, or a fake flower
stem, or even wooden sticks. Fasten off and close the hole.
*These 3 white stitches should be in the middle of the front of the shirt. If
your stitches don’t line up that way, please shift the color changes so that it
does.
With gold yarn, embroider a diamond shape on the front of the
shirt as seen on the image to the right.
        PANTS

chain isn’t twisted.

make a slipstitch border along the entire piece.

Grab your gold yarn. We’re going to make a row of surface slipstitch as the belt. Insert your hook into a stitch
on round 2 of the pants, on the back of the entire piece, and pull up a loop. Surface slipstitch all the way around
the piece.

With light mint yarn and only using half of the thread weight, embroider the front panel detail as seen on the
image.
      PANTS CHAINS (MAKE 2)
With gold yarn and 1.0mm hook, chain 13. (With 2.0mm,
only make 12.)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail, then sew the two ends of
the chain on the side of the pants as seen on the image.
Do this on the other side with the other chain, too.
You can now put the pants on your doll. You can sew the
top of the pants to the body to make them more secure,
but for me they were already pretty tightly fit so I didn’t
bother.

full-weight yarn to one side. Trim to the
desired length, and with a comb or a pair of scissors, brush them out a
little to make them a bit fuzzier and more unruly. Use normal glue to
harden them. Tie or glue them onto the front of the shoulder plates.

        HEAD
Using skin color, start with a magic ring. Tip: if using wires like I do, don’t pull the magic ring close as tightly as
you normally do, so that you will be able to slide the wires through that hole easily when placing the head, giving
it an extra layer of stability.

If using safety eyes, insert the eyes between round 17 and 18 (or 18 and 19, whichever you like better), 7
stitches apart. You can use either 9mm or 10mm eyes based on your preference. If using resin eyes, position
them one round below and also there should be 6 sts visible between the two eyes. I used 10mm resin eyes
here. You can choose to glue them on now, while you can easily lay the crocheted piece flat, or glue them
later when we’ve already closed up the head.

Using a tweezer or your fingers, push the 6 rounds of 12 sc’s we made at the beginning into the head. Start
stuffing the head. Make sure to stuff firmly so that it has a nice, round shape.

Fasten off and close the hole at the top of the head.
Now we’ll embroider the face. With a piece of white yarn, embroider the whites of the eyes; with black yarn,
the eyelashes. With black yarn, the eyebrows (4 stitches wide). You can also add a nose if you want; I
personally don’t like them on chibis, but it’s your preference!
Use the images below as reference for the face if you’d like.
       EARS (MAKE 2)

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. Sew the ears
onto the head with the top of the ear starting at
around the top of the eye, 6 sc away from the eye.

If you have some golden jump rings, or any other golden ring jewelry
accessory, you can put 1 in each ear as earring. Unfortunately, I’m out of
them at the moment, so I glued some golden yarn on a piece of wire and
folded that into a circle as earring. Of course, you can leave them out
completely if you’d like.
      HAIR
With black yarn, start with a magic ring. Use looser stitches for the hair than usual. (I usually achieve this by
doing yo/yu or V stitches instead of X.) For the hair strands, always start from the 2nd chain, unless stated
otherwise.

Fasten off. With the wrong side showing, position the hair on the head so that strands 15 and 23 are directly
above the ear, and strands 17-21 are in the front of the head. Use the images as guide. Glue the hair strands
onto the head. For strands 12-14 and 24-26, respectively, only glue them until around the middle of the
ears, because we will be using the left to make the hair rolls.

Once you’re done glueing, we will make the hair buns. You can do this two ways: either you can take all three
strands (S12-14/24-26) together and just roll them up into a bun like that, or roll each strand into a bun one by
one, around each other. I chose the latter, but the first works just as well. Don’t stress on making it perfect, just
try to make sure the buns are about the same size and in the same position on both sides. Use pins to keep the
buns in place.
STITCHES BY SUNKY © 2025 17
Now you can either sew the strands together, and the entire bun to the head, or just glue them. Make sure to
glue the outer strand to the rest of the bun, and also the bun itself to the head. Otherwise, you don’t need to
glue each strand perfectly, only so that it’s stable. Keep testing its stability and glue accordingly.
For the last detail, if you have some golden flower-shaped rhinestones (or you can use any other shapes, really),
you can glue some onto the bun like on the image.

And with all that done, your chibi Zoey is completed! Hope you enjoyed this pattern. <3
