FAQ and Tips!
Is it necessary to start with a chain instead of a magic ring?

Yes! For my patterns, I typically use a chain if I am looking for a oval shape rather than a circle.

knotmichelle
This also helps makes parts like the head and body easier to align forwards when assembling.

With a magic With a chain, you

Am I allowed to sell the finished product?

Yes you are! I just ask that you do not share this pattern with anyone as I work super hard

knotmichelle
designing and formatting each of my patterns. Thank you so much for your support when
purchasing!

What yarn do you use?

Listed in the materials section: “Soft Classic™ Solid Yarn by Loops & Threads” from Michaels

Felt cutting tips?

I highly recommend using sharp scissors and having a lot of patience. It’s definitely something
you need to practice to get good at.

How are your stitches so even?

I like to use the yarn under, yarn over technique (you can search this on Youtube). This gives the

knotmichelle
stitches an “x” shape.

Is joined rounds necessary for this pattern?

Yes. Using joined rounds will help line-up the stitches more evenly and position the colour
changes and increases in the correct spots.

How can I make this project smaller/bigger?

You can always try out a different yarn size and hook! If you’d like to make a smaller one, you
can use a smaller yarn and smaller hook or a bigger one can use a chunkier yarn and bigger
hook.

Assembly

knotmichelle
Sew the body between R16-17 of the head, making sure the front (the side with the light blue)
aligns with the front of the body where the legs are.

From the side view, the legs will be sticking out. Take some access yarn and sew the legs to the
body.

knotmichelle Since the legs are sticking out,

sew them to the body

Assembly
Sew the ears on both sides of the head between R2-7, making sure they are aligned with the
front. The white of the ears should also be facing towards the front.

knotmichelle Front View Top View

Sew the tail to the centre of the back of the body between R4-5. To make sure the tail doesn’t
move around, you can take the yarn tail and sew a bit higher up the back as well, but be sure to
leave some space for the stripes later on!

Sew the hind legs right next to the front legs between R4-9. For this part, you want start sewing

can also stuff the legs as you are sewing.

Details
Buckle in since there is a lot of felt work for this project! (Sorry in advance)
Feel free to also change anything up to your liking, you don’t have to make it exactly like mine.

knotmichelle Facial Details

Placements on where to glue the facial details will be page 16. This is just the sizes as well as
the components for the face.

Eyes
Heads up for this part, I went with a chibi style, but feel free to change it to match more with
Derpy the Tigers eyes in the movie!
The eyes are made up of 3 layers: the back, iris, and pupils.
View the image to see the shapes I cut out.
- The back is made with black felt and about 7 sts wide and 3.5 sts tall.

knotmichelle
- Trace the back part onto yellow felt to make the irises. Cut it slightly smaller and round
out the inner and outer edges. I also used orange chalk pastels to slightly shade the
edges.
- The pupils are made with black felt and about 3 sts wide and 3 sts tall. Adjusting the size
will definitely change the look in the end.
Now, stack and glue all the pieces together.

Cut out these shapes. Shade the

yellow irises with orange pastels and
then stack and glue them all

knotmichelle
together.

14
Facial Details
Nose
Cut out a flat oval and make it into a slight heart shape. It should be about 1 st wide and 0.5 st

knotmichelle
tall.

Mouth
I made an open mouth expression with the tongue out, but feel free to change this up!
The eyes are made up of the mouth shape, tongue, and teeth.
- Cut out the mouth shape with a dark pink/magenta felt as pictured. Mine is about 13 sts
wide and 1 st tall.
- Cut out the tongue with pink felt, it should be about 3 sts wide and 2 sts tall. Glue it to the
centre of the mouth.
- Then, cut out a little black strip of felt about a st tall. Glue it to the centre of the tongue.
- Cut out 2 white triangles of felt for the teeth, it should be about 1 st wide and 1.5 sts tall.
Glue them each about 1 st away from the tongue.

knotmichelle
Ears
Cut out 2 pink triangles of felt for the inner ears, it should fit inside of the ears but still be
showing the white part. Glue them into the centre of the ears.

knotmichelle
15
Facial Details
Now for the placements of all the facial details!
- Glue the eyes onto the lower part of the light blue of the face onto R9-12, about 4 sts

knotmichelle
apart.
- Glue the nose in the middle of the face, between the eyes on R12.
- Glue the mouth onto R14 below the eyes. You can curve the ends up a bit so it is about
0.5 st away from the eyes.

Forehead Stripes
I embroidered 2 lines with black thread above the eyes.
- The bottom line should be right above the light blue part. It should span across R7-8 and
be 4 sts wide and 7 sts apart.
- The top line should be right above and span across R5-7 and be 4 sts wide and 7 sts

- Cut out 3 black circles of felt about 1 st wide and 1 st tall. Glue them to the centre of the
head on R2, R4, and R6.

Stripes Details
Cheek Stripes
- Cut out the shapes as pictured.

knotmichelle
- For the one closer to the face, the black should be about 1 st wide and 5 sts tall and then
cut a smaller white part to fit inside.
- Glue it about 1 st away from the eyes.
- For the outer one, the black should be about 1 st wide and 6 sts tall and then cut a
smaller white part to fit inside.
- Glue it about 1 st away from the other stripe.

knotmichelle
Back Stripes
Again, this was all completely freehanded! Feel free to cut yours more evenly.
For these stripes, make elongated upside-down “V” shapes. You can leave them sharp or round.
Just like the cheeks, cut a smaller white part to fit inside. Mine are all about 10-12 sts wide and 3
sts tall. Make 4 of these.
I glued mine onto:
- R4-6 of the head
- R8-10 of the head
- R11-13 of the head

Stripes Details
Tail Stripes
This is similar to the back stripes, but smaller.

knotmichelle
For these stripes, make elongated upside-down “U” shapes. Cut a smaller white part to fit
inside. Mine are all about 4 sts wide and 1 st tall. Make 2 of these.
I glued mine onto:
- R7 of the tail
- R9 of the tail

Paw Details

knotmichelle
This part is a bit hard to measure, but everything should fit into the hind legs!
Everything should be made with black felt.
The pads of the paws are around 4 st wide and 1.5 sts tall.
The toe beans are about 0.5 sts tall and wide, make 4.
Glue them onto the hind legs as pictured.

You will need to cut out 6 half circles with yellow felt to make the eyes. They should be about 1

The pupils are a bit small so for my sanity's sake, I used a black fabric marker to colour them in.
You can use black felt to make them as well.

Glue the eyes in a bit of a diagonal direction. Mine is not perfect, but glue the top one right
