Twinings
Shown here in Fearless Fibers Laceweight merino, colorway Rubicund
Suggested Yarns: Fearless Fibers Merino Laceweight or Laceweight Cashmere, Wooly Wonka Fibers Merino
Laceweight, Knitting Notions Laceweight Merino, Jaggerspun Zephyr, Handmaiden Sea Silk,
or any fine yarn which has approximately 400 yards per 2 ounces
Notes: This fine, semi-sheer stole in two sizes [petite(tall)] is knit in two pieces from the hem to the
center back, then grafted together. Knit in finer yarn on smaller needles it will be more sheer
and narrow; larger needles and heavier yarn will produce a wider, denser piece.
Using the petite size for heavier yarns will produce a stole with dimensions as for the tall size.
Finished Size:
Unblocked dimensions: approximately 18(21) inches wide and 60(68) inches long
Finished dimensions: 21(24) W X 72(80) L (stretched and blocked)
Yarn requirements: 900(1400) yards of laceweight or fine fingering weight yarn
Gauge
Needles
28 sts and 32 rows = 4 in stockinette on size 6 needles, unblocked (fabric will be relaxed)
Size 6 (4mm)

Setup
Stole is worked with attached edgings at each side and the center 97(113) sts in Double Vine pattern. The
outermost two markers separate the edging sts from the main panel; the single inner marker denotes the
pattern repeat (see chart pg. 3 for marker and pattern layout). Where two numbers occur, the first number refers
to the petite size; the number in parentheses refers to the tall size.
Loosely cast on 105(121) sts. Work the following setup row on the WS:
k4, PM, *k1, p15, repeat from * to the last 5 sts, PM, k1, PM, yo, k2tog, yo, k2.
Turn work and begin the edging and Double Vine patterns on the RS with Row 1 (charted pattern and legend
appear on page 3).

Repeat rows 1 through 16 thirteen(sixteen) times MORE or until piece measures approximately 30(34) inches,
ending last repeat on row 15. Turn work and bind off 7 edging sts; place remaining 106(122) sts on a holder.
Cut yarn, leaving a 45-inch tail for grafting.
To complete stole:
Work second half of stole the same as the first, but leave the sts on the needle. Place the stitches from the first
half onto a second needle and, with wrong sides together, graft the two pieces together using kichener stitch.
To block, soak stole in lukewarm water with wool soap for approximately one hour, or until fiber is completely
saturated. Squeeze out excess water by rolling in a towel. Pin piece out to finished dimensions (see page 1),
stretching as needed. Allow to dry completely before unpinning; piece may also be steamed and allowed to dry
again as a final step before unpinning.

Notes:
Please read the setup notes on page 2 before beginning the chart. Legend for all charts appears below.
Odd-numbered rows are right-side (RS) rows; even-numbered rows are wrong-side (WS) rows.
Each RS row should be worked as follows from right to left: Work the RH edging sts, SM, p1, SM, work the pattern repeat
six(seven) times, SM, work the LH edging
Each WS row should be worked as follows from left to right: Work the LH edging sts, SM, work the pattern repeat
six(seven) times, SM, k1, SM, work the RH edging
Work the complete chart fourteen(seventeen) times, ending last repeat on row 15. Turn work and bind off 7 edging sts;
place remaining 106(122) sts on a holder. Cut yarn, leaving a 45-inch tail for grafting.
Stitches with a box around them on the BO row of the edging, will already be on the RH needle after BO.
See notes at the end of page 2 to complete stole.
Left edging (8-row repeat): work an
increasing number of stitches over
7 rows; BO 7 sts on the 8th row to
return to the original number.
