History
The Village of Calumet, founded 1864, was once at the
center of the copper mining industry in the Upper
Peninsula of Michigan. With copper mining booming in
the late 1800 the mines employed over 100,000
workers. The copper mines were particularly rich,
producing more than half of the copper from
1871 through 1880.

History
Loss of wartime demand caused the copper price to
drop following World War I. With the decreased
demand for copper, thousands left Calumet in the
1920s. During the Great Depression, almost all mines
were shut down. As a result, many miners and their
families left to find work. In 1950, the population of
Calumet dwindled until the mines were shut down
completely by a labor strike in 1968.

History
Fascinated by advances in semiconductors, a local
engineer was experimenting with fabrication of circuit
boards in his garage. As the mines closed, he saw and
opportunity to provide jobs if investors could be
found to convert his hobby into a company. Over 60
business owners, professionals, and merchants
answered his call, becoming the founding share
holders in a new venture.

History
In 1968, Calumet Electronics Corp. was incorporated.
Calumet Electronics set-up shop in an abandoned
church, their mission: provide long-term
employment to people living in Calumet and
surrounding communities. This largely remains
mission to this day. After a fire in the dead of
winter, Calumet purchased and set up operations in a
railroad round house.

Today, Calumet Electronics employs 190 people,
producing 100% of our field- PCBs in our
100,000 Sq. Ft. manufacturing facility located in
Calumet, Michigan, USA.
Calumet Electronics has zero debt, a 4A1 Dun &
Bradstreet rating, and we are one of only 14 PCB shops in
North America to be Nadcap accredited with Merit status.
We have been manufacturing PCBs for 46 years. Our
primary focus is industrial controls, power
infrastructure, medical devices, instrumentation, RF
microwave, communication, automotive, defense,
aerospace and commercial applications.

Intelligent Engineering
Calumet performs comprehensive analysis of customer data. Our highly experienced in-house team of
engineers provides a full suite of engineering services leveraging powerful software tools and
automation. In addition to performing typical Design for Manufacturing (DFM) checks, our engineers
discover and evaluate potential manufacturing issues and engage customers to suggest
improvements that may improve yields and reduce cost.
Advanced Equipment & Smart Systems
Calumet circuit boards are produced using some of the most advanced manufacturing equipment
and technologies available, including Laser Direct Imaging, 8-Camera Multilayer Punch, X-Ray Drilling,
and XACT PCB Gemini-X Linear+ software. These systems are integrated and work together to build
databases of predictive knowledge, panel-by-panel optimization for imaging and drilling, and provide
critical data feedback to engineers for continual improvement of signal layer registration.

Quality Through Process Control
Calumet believes that highly reliable manufacturing processes are the key to producing
very consistent product. We monitor hundreds of key process characteristics critical to
product quality. We strive to maintain each characteristic at or above a Cpk value of 1.33.
Our strategically placed in-process inspections, final inspections, and automated
electrical and mechanical verification steps assure our customers that Calumet circuit
boards can be received and placed directly into their stock without additional incoming
inspection.
Calumet Electronics is one of only fourteen printed circuit board manufacturers in North
America to achieve Nadcap accreditation. In addition to our existing ISO 9001 and
AS9100 certifications, Nadcap provides a significant pre-qualification status to attract
and retain customers in aerospace, defense and other sectors where high reliability is
required. Nadcap represents an unprecedented cooperative industry effort to improve
quality, while simultaneously reducing cost and improving efficiencies.

Calumet's Internet-based electronic transactions use standard electronic data
interface (EDI) templates that integrate supply-chain management systems to
