We are not dedic ating this book to these calye s nor the pail nor
the milk. We are merely using the illistration to show the thing that
has made our school the kind that we as students are proud to have the
op~ ortunity to att end.
A community cannot be come the proud owne r s of a school like ours
and achieve the things ou rs has a chieved until its citizens have made
the intelligent decision that thes e calves made and pull toward a
common interest and common cau se.
We , the Student Council of t he Buffalo Hi gh School, as represen-
tatives of the student bo"dy want to expr ess the gratitude of that
student body for the opportuniti es af forded us.
So it is to that s~irit of co-operation, of working together,
of individual s acrifice toward a common cause on the part of every
citizen of t his community that we dedicate this the 1949-50 Bison.
May that spirit eve:r· pr evail in this community for the s ake of those
to follow after us.

Our schools must truly meet the needs of all the children of
all the people. The school must not onl y contribute t o the ment al
and physical development of our youth but it must carry its
responsibility toward the ethical, mo-ral and spiritual growth and
development.

May I congratulate the members of this community f or t he fi ne

co-operative education program you are providing. Your expanded
curriculum, your recent building additions, your athletic field
etc., and your whole-hearted community co-operation deserve much
praise. That thing is not possible without the splendid co-
operation you give others.

Therefore I think the Student Council acted wisely in making

the unusual dedication you read on the preceeding page. The stu-
dents, community organizations, and all citizens deserve that
commendation.

It is my hope that that spi rit of oneness in effort will

continue until this school is offering its maximum in service in
this community. It is my desire to offer my small bit toward that
goal.

 SUMMARY OF THE BISON TRIBE OF 1949-50

One word could be used to describe the type of t eams that repres ent ed
the Buffalo Schools durine the school year 1949-50. That word would be
riSuccessful 11 •

The Softball t eams of the High SchG>ol were the first to en gage in
practice and interschool competition.

Both the boY' s and girl's teams were undefeated in t heir regul ar
schedule and both t eams won first pl a ces in the Buffalo Invitational t our-
naments.

As soon as th e softball games were over, and chilly weather began to move
in, our attention was turned to basketball. The Bisons were faced with t he
toughest schedule that a Bison team had played in some time. We realized
we had a big 'job to do and some 20 eager boys worked hard to bring in the
victories.

The 11 A11 squad won the Buffalo Invitational Tournament, the Gold Division
of the Greenwood Invitational Tournament, qualified for the Tournament of
Champions and won third place, won second place in the Class 11 A11 regional,
and finished the season with a 2f won, 6 lost record.

The "B 11 squad, composed of 12 boys, were undefeated during the season
play in competition with other ''B 11 squads. This group of b?;} S will furnish ·

the players for next year's, varsity team.

To summarize the won-lost record of the entire squad, the total would
be forty-eight games won ·and six lost.

The volleyball girl's team won 8 games and lost 5 during the season .
They captured third place in their own invitational tournament.

The Junior High boy's team won 5 and lost 5. These boys were especially
cooperative and showed more improvement during the season than any other
squad.

I want to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation for

the cooperation and courtesy that each member of our athletic teams has
shown me, and to their fellow members on the team. I want to congratulate
them for their courtesy and sportsmanship to their opponents. It's always
a pleasure to coach groups that possess your characteristics.

The girls softball team under the leadership of Coach Matthews enj
an undefeated season, winning first place in the Buffalo tournament.

Coach Matthews had twenty girls who went out for volleyball and enjoyed
numerous games throughout the season, taking third place in the Buffalo
tournament.

 This year has been a year of growth for the mus1c depart-
ment •.• growth in quality as well as in number. We have seen.
music come a long way toward being a nhing for everyone instead
of the cho s en few. Some 300 students took part in the music
curriculum:

plus several ensembles and soloists.

Through t he assistance of t he other departments, a 75

voice chorus was able to present a very successful Christmas
program.
Another progressive event was the Husic Festival, the
first of its kind in Buffalo. Six bands, J orchestras, 16
choruses and glee club s , and lll ensembles and soloists from
1 2 schools participated in this event.
Buffalo !Jad 24 enc,ries in the Sub- District contest at
Lebanon and received 14 "First" ratings. Of those entries,
5 took "Firsts 11 at the District and 3 went to the State Festival.
A great unseen part of the music program has been the
extensive participation o f ' students in f urnishing sp ecial
music for churches, clubs, lodr- es, and other organizations
throughout the year.
