What to Know

Critics Consensus

Stuffed with characters and overly reliant on uninspired dialogue, Eclipse won't win The Twilight Saga many new converts, despite an improved blend of romance and action fantasy.

Alex Vega Autostraddle I wanted "terrible/AWESOME" and all we got was painfully terrible. I am upset. Jul 13, 2021 Full Review Joe Lipsett Hazel & Katniss & Harry & Starr Podcast It's better than New Moon (because something actually happens), but both Jacob and Edward are insufferable and Bella's decision to become a vampire remains irrational. Kaitlyn Good to see it a second time! It made me realize that there were no emotional depth to the characters except the proposal scene. Made me feel nostalgic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/01/25 Full Review Topeka Bella's feelings. I have to admire how Stephenie and the filmmakers ruthlessly focus on Bella's feelings, and the love trianble between Bella, Edward, and Jacob. No matter how complex or interesting the other subplots may be, they do not allow that to distract us from what is important: Settling the emotional conflict of an angsty teenager. Bella's feelings for Edward and Jacob cannot allow minor distractions like the slaughter of dozens of Democrat voters, or the personal losses of close friends, or the revelation that her new friends are all serial killers. The dialogue is cringy. Bella bursts into a self-centered rants about how special she is. She expresses her desire to be undead, and she claims to love the guy she friend-zoned, and friend-zones the guy she loved. All without any empathy for the bloodshed and mayhem going on in the background. In this film, we do learn that Bella's feelings are not influenced so much by necrophilia or bestiality as they are by how 'warm' Jacob is versus how 'cold' Edward is. It is the conflict between a rural life of quiet domestic bliss versus a cosmolitan life of travel and adventure. Accepting the premise that the story is about a teenage girl's feelings and puppy loves set in a fantasy world with vampires and werewolves, no one watching the film can complain that the plot sucks or the dialogue is consistent with teenagers. As for Charlie: I literally remember having the same conversations with my daughters. Right down to the stupid dialogue. Watching it now with my baby daughter - now 32 - going through baby's first divorce - it was all we could do to not bust a gut laughing and/or groaning out loud at the cringy dialogue. Excellent execution. Great acting. Brilliant technical effects. But. Nothing can fix the stupid plot. And that's fine. That's what we paid for. It's entertainment folks. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/01/25 Full Review Gina L I think too many people hate on this movie and don't see how crucial it was to the overarching story. I love this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/01/25 Full Review Miss Nana yes, watch it on the big screen! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/01/25 Full Review Paulina It was amazing to be able to watch it again on the big screen! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/25 Full Review Geo3 F For readers of the book this is a good adaption of the film as the book to my point of view is not as good as new moon so this film is not as great either to it as well. Overall, good film to enjoy for fans of series. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/01/25 Full Review Read all reviews
