IXL is torture for children. The grading system makes absolutely no sense. A correct answer gives you 1-2 points,an incorrect one takes away 10-15 points! That isn't even done in colleges and universi... See more

Great practise tool

My teen uses this as a practise tool to consolidate his learning and he LOVES it. YES, it has the occasional glitches (even real life teachers have those!) and YES it's frustrating not getting to 100 smartscore every time so my teen settles for 80. In fact, it's helped my teen stop trying to be a perfectionist. Perfectionism is counterproductive, especially to a kid. We use other resources too, but as a practise tool I'd recommend it. It also explains 'why' when you get an answer wrong which some other sites don't, so you can learn from it too.

Bravo IXL ( help during lockdown)

This is not an easy app program. But the difference it has made to my children’s learning during lockdown is. Brilliant ( yes you drop a lot of points when you get an answer wrong) but it’s helping them no ends and making them want to get 100 percent and receive awards when they do well Bravo IXL.....

Worse than any other learning website.

Terrible. My kids have had traumas over this terrible program and I was in shock to find to it was such a punishing system. My daughter had 99 'smartscore' and got it wrong and was sent back to 85. Not recommended.

if i can PHYSICALLY burn ixl i would AAAAAARGGGG

it is a waste of time and the explanation are rubbish and i feel so sorry for my brother he is on the last skill on his year and has been on it for 9 BLOODY HOURS. and 500 questions he has done. don't even get me started on the explanation. my bro is doing rotation around a point and the only thing it says for the explanation is "ROTATE THE ANGLE" what do you mean just rotate it. they are far more better websites that i recommend such as Seneca learning ,khan academy, GCSE pod.( kids have broken their devises because of this and even cried.) i definitely did. SURE IXL IS STILL BENIFITING YOU AND I HAVE IMPROVED ALOT BUT IT IS SO DEPRESSING.

Good Program, provided....

I think IXL is a good program, provided it's used correctly and with the correct expectations. I've started both my kids on this and they are progressing very well. Yes, both have been very frustrated at times, but mastery of any subject/task is not easy. The expectation should be for the student to achieve 80-90% smart score in their grade level to be considered "very good/competent" in the subject. I see from most of the reviews that students are getting frustrated when trying to achieve 100%, which is mastery of the subject. Unless the expectation is for the student to get 100% on all math and english tests 100% of the time, then mastery isn't really the goal. Such achievements can only be made by a very small percentage of people (if all students in a class got perfect on tests, all the time, then we'd be wondering if the tests wern't a little too easy and the teacher somewhat bad).

If your a parent/educator, don't expect that you can just plop down a kid, walk away and expect them to be perfect. For the kids to learn, it still takes a little to a lot of effort on the adults part. It requires sitting with the learner when they're struggeling and helping with the "teaching" part.

GARBAGE GARBAGE SH**TY AS F***

Horrible. The first 50 points are OK. They are reasonable. Then after it gives you 7 points and when you get it wrong you lose 5. Then at 80-90 You get 1 or 2 points and you lose from 11 to 20! How outrageous? This app has given me depression which I have recovered from. Its bullfuck, don't download it. Its costs money btw.

Negative

I have been forced to use it for quite some years now ,it is bad. It discourages you from learning and instead of teaching you to get it right next time it deducts a ridiculous amount of points from your current amount. you need 100 points to pass and if your on 99 and get a question wrong it takes you back to 88 get another one wrong, 76, another? 65 and that's only 4 questions when it takes you almost 30 questions to get to 99.

Terrible really I've grown to despise it.

IXL is the worst

I am a 8th grader and my opinion is that IXL is so frustrating!!! Like, when I get to 93 I bump down to 84!!! One time I had to do one IXL skill for A WHOLE DAY!!! This is so frustrating and I don’t recommend it!!!
