NGC 514는 물고기자리 적도자리에 있는 저휘도 중간 [8]나선 은하로, 은하수에서 약[3] 8300만 광년 거리에 있습니다.이것은 1784년 10월 16일 천문학자 윌리엄 허셜에 [9]의해 발견되었다.은하의 일반적인 형태는 중심부에 약한 막대 시스템(SAB),[5] 막대 주위에 불완전한 고리 형성(rs), 느슨하게 감긴 나선팔(c)을 가지고 있다는 것을 나타내는 SAB(rs)c의 형태학적 분류로 규정됩니다.이 은하는 광학적 범위에서는 약한 방출선을 보이는 확장된 영역을 가진 H II[10] 핵을 가지고 있지만,[5] 근적외선 영역에서는 그렇지 않습니다.중심부에 있는 것으로 추정되는 초질량 블랙홀의 질량은 3.2×106☉ [8]M으로 추정된다.
2020년 10월 NGC 514에서 [11]1a형 초신성 2020uxz가 검출되었다.
