Disguise
The Disguise is an Item in Echoes of Wisdom.[1]
Location and Uses
The Disguise is worn by Princess Zelda after she escapes from the Hyrule Castle Underground. It is comprised of a dress given to her by Impa and Link's hood.[2] When Zelda is wearing the Disguise, her identity will be concealed.[1][3] This results in Soldiers and residents of Hyrule Castle Town being unable to recognize her. The Clothing's scent is described to be similar to a musty dresser.[3] Until Zelda has completed the Main Quest "Still Missing", she will be unable to change out of her Disguise.
After Zelda mends the Rift in Suthorn Forest during the Main Quest "The Mysterious Rifts", Minister Lefte appears outside the Suthorn Ruins, although she does not initially recognize Zelda due to her Disguise.[4][5] When the pair visit Lueburry's House, Lueburry will not speak to them until he recognizes Link's cloak, at which point he questions Zelda about him.[6] Later on, at the end of the Main Quest "The Jabul Waters Rift", General Wright also does not immediately recognize Zelda after being rescued, though he finds her familiar.[7] As a result, Zelda reveals her identity to him as well.[8] When Zelda reunites with the King of Hyrule at the end of the Main Quest" Still Missing", he is able to see through her Disguise immediately.[9]
When Zelda wears the Disguise, many of the residents of Suthorn Village will comment on the cloak due to their familiarity with Link. When Zelda speaks to Jacint prior to completing "The Mysterious Rifts", he will recognize that her hood resembles Link's and hopes that he is well.[10] The leader of Suthorn Village also recognizes the hood, though he is distracted by his wife being trapped in a Rift.[11] A Hylian woman asks Zelda if someone gave it to her, noting its similarity to Link's.[12]
After "The Mysterious Rifts" has been completed, the villagers will talk to Zelda more about her Disguise's cloak. If Zelda approaches Jacint after completing the Side Quest "Finding the Flying Plant", he will once again comment on how her hood reminds him of Link.[13] Oethera calls the hood lovely, and she states that she believes Zelda can defeat Monsters while wearing it.[14] The leader of Suthorn Village comments on how similar her cloak is to Link's, and he asks if they are in style.[15] The Hylian woman talks about Link, stating that he is on a journey and that she is worried about when he will return.[16] Her son expresses a desire to have a similar cloak.[17] The proprietor of the Suthorn Village Shop plans to stock the hoods if they are trending.[18] During the Side Quest "Up a Wall", Verley will initially believe that Zelda is Link because of the hood, though he apologizes for his mistake afterwards.[19][20]
After completing "Still Missing", the residents of Suthorn Village will begin to talk about Link if Zelda wears her Disguise around them. Jacint is reminded of happy memories of Link when he sees the hood.[21] Oethera asks Zelda if she is on a journey, and she reminds her not to spend too much time away from her home.[22] The village leader mistakes Zelda for Link, expressing that the villagers are eagerly awaiting his return.[23] Seeing the cloak, the leader's wife mentions that modern trends are different from when she was younger.[24] The shopkeeper recalls that Link used to help him taste-test his products.[25] After completing the Side Quest "What Is Snow...Really?", the child still wants a cloak of his own.[26]
Due to Link's adventures, people outside of Suthorn Village recognize the Diguise's cloak as well. At the Oasis in the Gerudo Desert, a Gerudo Soldier recalls how Link saved her from falling into a Rift and defeated Monsters, which inspired her to become a Soldier.[27][28] In Kakariko Village, a Hylian family will initially confuse Zelda for Link, explaining that he prevented them from being stolen away by a Rift as well.[29][30][31] If Zelda wears the Disguise in front of Condé, he remembers that Link pulled him out of the Still World in the past.[32]
If Zelda wears her Disguise in Hyrule Castle Town after completing "Still Missing", the residents will not recognize her. As a result, they will treat her differently and make admissions they would not normally. Romi will initially recognize Zelda, but she begins to doubt herself and becomes confused.[33] Romi's father, however, admits that he is too busy judging others to speak to Zelda.[34] Romi's cousin criticizes her uncle, but she notes that he is loving to Romi.[35] Zelda can overhear the Hylians near the fountain discussing the Stamp Guy and planning to call Soldiers to arrest him.[36] The Hylian next to the Weathervane will initially brag about having spoken to Zelda before.[37] After being introduced to Tri, he will recognize Zelda after noticing Tri is following her.[38] His younger brother, who can be found in the House across the courtyard, comments on how nice his brother is to him.[39] Their father recalls that he was once an adventurer, and he swam to the Sea Zora Village during this time.[40] Their mother remembers he used to come back injured, and she recommends always having healing Items.[41]
The elderly Hylian in the House near the Town's gate will be able to recognize Zelda, though she is embarrassed by how long it took her.[42] The man whose House was consumed by a Rift will express his relief that his home was restored.[43] His sister complains about his desire to move to the wilderness, since their home is in an ideal location and was left to them by their mother.[44] The woman standing by the Well will struggle to come up with a way to start a conversation with the man she sees at the Bottom of the Well.[45] A Hylian girl wishes that Zelda was there to play with her.[46] A young woman considers writing down recent events so that future historians can have a firsthand account.[47] The family that runs the Hyrule Castle Town Shop will advertise their wares, with the shopkeeper claiming their goods are utilized by the King of Hyrule and Princess Zelda.[48][49][50]

You'll stand out in your current attire, so I've brought something for you to change into. Oh, what is that blue fabric sticking out from your pocket there? I see! It's the cloak the swordsman was wearing! The size seems workable... It will do a fine job of shrouding you. Quickly now—before we're spotted.

Oh! Princess Zelda?! I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't recognize you in the cloak... Er, why are you wearing that?
— Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Hm? Hang on here... That's Link's cloak! So why do YOU have it? Did you see him? Well?!
— Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Do you know the way to Hyrule Cas— Hmm. You... You look a little like... No, it can't be...

It's you, Princess! I'd have never guessed I'd meet you here of all places! Just imagine, here in Jabul Waters! Now, what in the world has been going on?

Zelda!
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
How curious... Link wears a cloak like yours. Ah, Link... I hope you're all right.
— Jacint (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Uh, who are you? No, no! It doesn't matter. Can you please, please help us?! Er, hey! That cloak looks a lot like Link's! Are those cloaks trendy right now or something? Ack, what am I doing? This is no time for idle banter!
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
We can use the path that goes up to the field now that the rift is gone. By the way, stranger, that cloak of yours... Did someone give that to you? It's just that...it looks exactly like one a young man from this village wears.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
You know, that cloak of yours...it looks so much like Link's.
— Jacint (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
My, what a lovely cloak. The sight of it gives me hope—as if you can battle monsters with style and ease.
— Oethera (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
So, anyway... That cloak of yours... It's just like Link's! Is that what's in style right now?
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
What you're wearing reminds me of a young man who lives here. He's off on a journey. He's been away a long time, and I worry about whether he'll make his way home soon.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Wow! Your cloak is just like Link's! Wish I had one!
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
My dear customer! Where in the world did you get that cloak? A young man who lives here wears one like it! I'd better stock up if they're in style...
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Link! Link, are you there? There are so many monsters here. Fight them off for me, please!
— Verley (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Wow! Saving the day as always, the heroic... Huh? You're not Link! Sorry about that! That hood had me thinking you were someone else. Please forgive the confusion.
— Verley (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Your cloak reminds me of Link... He's been away from us so long that it brings back happy memories.
— Jacint (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
That cloak of yours seems so familiar. Are you away from home on a journey? Careful you don't go so far...that it keeps your loved ones waiting too long for your return.
— Oethera (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Aaaah, Link?! Oh, sorry. I thought you were someone else. What you're wearing reminds me of a young man named Link who lives here. He'll return from his journey someday. We look forward to having him feast with us!
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Oh my! Your cloak is a near match to one that Link from our village wears. Are cloaks all the rage with young folks right now? Styles were so different in my day.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
My dear customer! That cloak! It reminds me of a young man who lives in this village. He used to help me make my goods better. We'd do taste tests on all these products. I'd get stomach aches, but that guy never did—not once...
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Your cloak, Miss! It looks like Link's! I want to wear one too!
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
That... That cloak! Oh, apologies for my intensity. You reminded me of someone else. You see, I nearly got pulled into a rift a long time ago. At the time, a swordsman wearing a very similar cloak rescued me. He took out wave after wave of monsters as they swarmed from the rift. It was quite the sight. He's actually the reason I decided to become a soldier. I want to be strong like him someday.
— Gerudo Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Your cloak reminded me of a swordsman in a green tunic who saved me. He struck down a bunch of monsters that had come out of a rift. It was surreal. I used to never wander far from home. But now look at me! I became a soldier because of him.
— Gerudo Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Whoaaa! Link? Oh, sorry—you're not Link. I got confused 'cause your hood looks like his.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Whoa! Link, welcome— Oh. Sorry, that hood looks just like Link's. He's the young man who saved my children.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Wow, quite the tale! He's gone missing? That young man once saved my kids from getting caught in a rift. And he used to drop by the village to weed out monsters. In short, he's been a huge help to all of us here! I hate to think of anything bad happening to him. Wherever he is, I just hope he's OK.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Zelda, that thing you're wearing around your head... Condé's seen it before. Condé fell into some dark gunk once. Someone saved him who wore that. Condé doesn't remember much about it, but you wearing THAT is a happy sight!
— Condé (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Oh! It's the princess! Wait... No, you're someone else. Wait, no, you ARE the princess? Huh? Which is it? I'm confused!
— Romi (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Oh, did you need something? You'll find I'm too busy to chat unless it's very important. Actually, off with you! I'm fully occupied watching others and judging them in insightful ways.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
My uncle owns this house. He's the one in the tent outside. He's so unpleasant! He's VERY nice to important people though. I'll admit he dotes on his little girl. I'm his niece. I should be more thankful, given he lets me live here. And all's fine today. But still...
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
I saw the strangest character in town the other day. A true eccentric!
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom)An eccentric, hm?
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom)Really—you should have seen him. He had on a bizarre red hat! And he would NOT stop talking about stamps. Even forced a stamp card into my hand! What an unsavory figure! If I see him again, I'll ask the soldiers to arrest him on the spot!
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
I hear that a lot of rifts have been going away thanks to Princess Zelda. I've talked to the princess a few times, you know. Just a few. So far.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Huh? Behind you... Is that Tri? But that'd mean you're... Oh!
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
That's my big brother standing in front of the weathervane. He gets grumpy at home, but he's always super nice to me!
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom)Enough! How many times have I told you not to—Wait, that was a compliment. Apologies. I shouldn't have gotten agitated.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom)Haha! Happy family!
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
I've traveled the world in search of adventure, meeting all sorts, all over the place. I'll never forget how thrilled I was when I swam out to Sea Zora Village for the first time!
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
My husband used to go on lots of adventure—came home battered and bruised. Guh... Always scared me. That's why you should always have some healing items on you. Might give peace of mind to the people who care about you.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Hm? Let me get a better look at you... Your Highness, is that you? I must be losing my touch if it took this long to realize it...
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
You'd never guess it, but our house was caught up in a rift here in town. I'm relieved that it's gone back to normal!
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
My brother told me he wants to go live in the woods. Pah! Nonsense! What—he's really going to give up a prime spot in the middle of Castle Town? Besides...this house is special. Our mom left it to us.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
"What's your name? Where are you from? What are you doing at the bottom of this well?" Ugh, such surface-level questions. Why is it so hard making small talk?
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
*siiigh* I wish Princess Zelda was here. I want her to play with me...
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Wow... I should get my journal and write down what I just saw. Future historians are bound to want a firsthand account from today.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑

Our shop's a favorite of those who live and work in the castle. It has been for a long time. Both the king and the princess have enjoyed our goods. I am truly grateful for that.
