Features and Overview

A Link to the Past

In A Link to the Past, the Well is located in the northwestern corner of Kakariko Village. Falling down the Well leads to Kakariko Cave, where a Cracked Wall can be opened with a Bomb to reveal a Piece of Heart.

Link's Awakening

In Link's Awakening, the Well is located in the western part of Mabe Village, north of the Village Library. Link can only access it by clearing out the Grass atop the cliff in vicinity, then jumping down. A Piece of Heart can be found in the puddle of Water near a staircase leading out.

If Link jumps down the Well while Marin is following him, she will fall on him. In Link's Awakening DX, if Link has met the Photographer, the latter will appear and take a Photo of the moment for The Travels of Link, which he will call "Heads Up!".[5]

Breath of the Wild

In Breath of the Wild, several Wells can be found in the ruins of villages destroyed during the Great Calamity. Many of them contain Korok Seed Puzzles, such as Natural Hiding Spots. All of these Wells were retroactively named in Tears of the Kingdom.

In addition to these, the structure between the East Wind and a nearby Silo in Hateno Village is referred to as a Well. During the day, Amira and Nikki stand at the Well and talk with each other. When Link approaches them, they will accuse him of eavesdropping on their conversation.[6][7] To listen to Amira and Nikki, Link must stand behind the Well. Nikki mentions that one of her children recently claimed that a young girl was seen at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab.[8] Amira remarks that this is strange, and she wonders if the residents of the Lab adopted a child.[9] Nikki dismisses this, claiming that the director, Purah, does not seem the type to do so.[10] She begins to speculate about who the girl could be, before deciding that her idea is impossible.[11]

There are 58 total Wells scattered throughout Hyrule,[12] 32 of which are returning from Breath of the Wild. They are most commonly found in the proximity of settlements, such as towns, ruins, or Stables.[13][14] Link is now able to access the interior of Wells, where he can find many of the same Creatures and Materials that appear in Caves.[15] The interiors of most Wells are Stable Climates, thereby preventing Link from taking Weather-related damage while he is inside.[16] There are three Wells that double as Chasms, serving as entryways into the Depths.

Fera, who is a fan of Wells, dreams of traveling to all 58 Wells in Hyrule.[12] As part of the Side Quest "Where Are the Wells?", she tasks Link with finding the locations of these Wells.[17] In return, she pays him 10 Rupees for each Well he discovers for her.[18] As a reward for finding all of them, she gives Link the All's Well.[19][20]

The structure in Hateno Village that was referred to as a Well in Breath of the Wild returns in Tears of the Kingdom. It is still the location where Amira and Nikki speak with each other during the day.

Echoes of Wisdom

Several Wells appear within settlements in Echoes of Wisdom. Three of these Wells have their own independent interiors, all referred to as the "Bottom of the Well".

While Princess Zelda is escaping from Hyrule Castle during the Main Quest "The Mysterious Rifts", she enters a Well in the Castle's courtyard that leads to the Royal Hidden Passage. Later on, as part of "Still Missing", she must enter Hyrule Castle Town's Well in order to access the nearby Rift. Lastly, during "A Rift in the Faron Wetlands", she utilizes a Well to escape from the Deku Scrub Lockup, leading her back into Scrubton.
