Biography

Breath of the Wild

Leena is a Gerudo Soldier who can be found in the Barracks of Gerudo Town. She carries a Gerudo Spear.

The first time Link can speak to her, he will find her going through a list of supplies she needs for a trip into the Gerudo Desert.^[3] After Link has started the "Divine Beast Vah Naboris" Main Quest, Leena will be concerned that Barta may have been captured by the Yiga.^[4] However, she assures herself that Barta must have instead gotten lost in the Sandstorms near Karusa Valley.^[5]

When Link speaks to Liana, she notices that she has not seen Barta for some time.^[6] Leena explains that she left for the Yiga Clan Hideout two days ago, and she wonders what happened to her.^[7] Angered, Liana asks why she let Barta go by herself,^[8] which Leena apologizes for, explaining that she thought she would be careful.^[9] Liana is upset that they now have to retrieve both the Thunder Helm and Barta.^[10] She expresses concern about Captain Teake finding out about what happened.^[11]

Once Divine Beast Vah Naboris has been calmed, Link can speak to Leena to find that she is once again concerned about Barta.^[12] When he approaches Liana, she will be shocked to hear that Barta has disappeared for a second time.^[13] Kotta reveals that she went to investigate the Gerudo Great Skeleton,^[14] though Leena claims she tried to stop her.^[15] Liana notes that they clearly did not succeed,^[16] but Leena explains that she did not think Barta would actually go due to the Molduga living in the area.^[17] When Kotta furthers this point by bringing up the extreme Heat,^[18] which only causes Liana to call them idiots.^[19] She tells them that Barta would not realize if she was walking towards danger.^[20] She resigns herself to the fact that Barta, Kotta, and Leena will not change, but she wonders why she has to get into trouble so often.^[21] After witnessing this exchange, "The Search for Barta" Side Quest will begin.

When spoken to afterwards, Leena will be upset that Liana is angry at her again.^[22] She recalls that she has been in trouble like this before with Teake, claiming that she was mad at her then, too.^[23] However, she repeats that she tried to stop Barta this time, since she told her to equip herself for the Heat in the area.^[24] Link tells her to try harder next time, but this only angers Leena.^[25]

When Barta returns to the Barracks, Leena notes how impressive it is that she was able to cross the Gerudo Desert.^[26] She wonders how strong Barta must be to do so.^[27]

Trivia

Leena is one of several characters that will hit Link back if he attacks them with a Weapon.^[28]^[29]^[30] These attacks deal no damage.

Nomenclature

Many Gerudo in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are named for real-world cosmetics or beauty items. "Leena" may derive from linen.

Additionally, Leena is a common shortening of the names "Helena" and "Matleena."^[31]
