PureJSImage is a particularly cool project I've been working on. I was frustrated by the state of image manipulation libraries in the javascript ecosystem. Many of them are fractured in their support, weak on memory performance, or full of a large amount of dependencies constituting a huge supply chain risk.
PureJSImage is an experiment for me using LLM engineering to build a very large project in parallel driven by strict engineering constraints and benchmark validations the entire way. By the the time I stop active work on it I expect it will be the largest corpus of first party image decoders in the entire Javascript ecosystem (especially for TIFF) - I'm particularly interested in doing this to enable people to easily build browser based tools for looking at scientific and medical imagery which I think is a perfect candidate for LLM driven development since there is an absolutely insane number of formats to try to support and the only way to do it is to automate your way through it.
I hope that restricted environments like hospitals and research laboratories will be able to use PureJSImage because it has such wide ranging TIFF support and has zero production dependencies, and that a project like this can in some way advance scientific endeavors.
