Hi! I'm África Méndez 👋

🧭 About

I work on the definition side of software products. I turn stakeholder needs into requirements a team can build, order the backlog by business value, and follow implementation through to delivery. I also develop on those same products.

My background is in Psychology and in multiplatform application development. The first covers structured interviews, requirement elicitation and measurement design. The second covers REST APIs, hexagonal architecture, and relational and document databases.

💼 What I'm working on

Product Owner Junior & Dev at Worldpats (A Coruña, remote)

I own the backlog for a development team working in Scrum. I turn stakeholder needs into user stories with acceptance criteria and decide the order in which the team builds them, through backlog refinement, sprint planning and tracking in Jira. I also develop and integrate end-to-end features, with the documentation and testing that go with them.

Founder & Product Owner at Corata (corata.es)

Corata is both the brand and the product, a talent infrastructure made of several digital services running on one psychological mapping engine. It does not score or rank people. It reads psychosocial signals and turns them into information a company can act on, and the profile belongs to the person rather than to an employer.

I define the vision and the roadmap, and prioritise the backlog by business value. Discovery so far has been built on interviews with decision makers at five organisations (staffing agencies, SMEs, startups and education centres). I built the MVP as a full stack developer, with a REST API and an API-first approach. Development is now handled by a technical partner so that my focus stays on product and business, covering market and competitor analysis, the pitch, and relationships across the startup ecosystem.

🏆 Corata won the regional and the Galicia-wide stages of the Santander X programme (Banco Santander) and is currently a candidate for the national award.

📂 Repositories

corata-product-case-study is a written case study on Synap, the first module of Corata, covering discovery, scope, the trade-offs behind the engine and what I deliberately left out.

Corata and my work at Worldpats live in private repositories. The public code here includes cala-studio-landing, a client site for a Pilates studio built with React, Vite and Supabase, containerised with Docker and deployed on Vercel.

Based in Galicia and currently working remotely. Open to Product Owner roles, remote or on site.
