Developer productivity and build systems

I am Inaki Villar, working at Develocity. I build tools that make software delivery easier to observe, compare, and improve. Most of my work sits around build systems, developer productivity, CI telemetry, AI-assisted workflows, and experiments that turn behavior into useful data.

Featured work

Project What it does
Telltale Experimentation framework for comparing Gradle build variants across branches, cache modes, environments, and report types.
daemonitor Desktop activity monitor for Gradle daemons, live process insight, and build history.
Build Process Watcher GitHub Action for monitoring Java and Kotlin build processes in CI, tracking heap, RSS, GC, charts, and optional live dashboards.
Talaiot Extensible Gradle build telemetry library that records task duration, build metadata, and publishes metrics to systems like InfluxDB, Elasticsearch, Pushgateway, and RethinkDB.
ProjectGenerator CLI and library for generating modular Gradle projects with configurable graph shapes, Android/JVM targets, dependency injection, Gradle versions, and synthetic code.
CompareScans CLI for comparing Build Scan metrics from Develocity or local files, with default and custom rules for build analysis.
PaparazziTestDistributionExtension Test Distribution extension for Paparazzi screenshot tests.
Bagan Experimental Kubernetes based framework for running Gradle build experiments, collecting metrics, and visualizing performance data.

New and active work

Project Focus
daemonitor Local desktop view into Gradle daemon activity, process state, and build history.
VideoSignal AI workflow for processing video transcripts and turning them into useful signals.
Telltale results Automated experimentation results for comparing Gradle build behavior across variants.

Current themes

  • Making CI resource usage visible while the build is still running.
  • Surfacing local daemon, agent, and video-derived signals for faster debugging.
  • Comparing build behavior across branches, cache modes, Gradle versions, and project shapes.
  • Turning Develocity and Build Scan data into actionable reports.
  • Building small Gradle plugins that expose hidden build-system costs.
