abbrv

A framework for designing and using shorthand fonts.

Getting started

The website is hosted at https://jvita.github.io/abbrv

Designing a shorthand system

If you are only interested in using abbrv for designing a shorthand system, a good place to start is with the help page

Note that in order to submit your system to the public repository, you will need to make a GitHub account if you don't already have one.

Generating PDFs

To render text as shorthand to a PDF, use generate_pdf.py:

python generate_pdf.py static/data/systems/orthic input.txt output.pdf
python generate_pdf.py static/data/systems/orthic input.txt output.pdf --beginner # shows text labels

Contributing to the software

This repository is entirely open-source, so feel free to create your own fork, add any desired features, then open a PR to merge your work.

All contributions are welcome, no matter your skill level as a programmer!

Questions/comments?

Please be courteous to all of the developers. We're doing this voluntarily in our free time. Because of this, development may be slow, sporadic, and completely subject to our whims.

If you encounter a bug or have a feature request, please open an issue or contact u/jerrshv on Reddit.
