Installation instructions - Windows

  1. Unzip the YourJourney_Win_v0.40.zip file somewhere and run "Your Journey.exe".
  2. Put your .jime scenario files (like The Watch at Weathertop by Noldorion) in the "Your Journey" folder in your Documents folder (Windows users). You can also grab Shadows of Mirkwood) which is a fan-made Campaign with 9 scenarios in German and English.
  3. Hit the "New Game" button at the title.
  4. Create a save slot on the next screen (just start typing when it asks for a name, then press enter).
  5. Load your level on the next screen.
  6. Choose your characters by clicking on the top half; change their names by clicking on the bottom half, typing, and pressing enter.
  7. Change the difficulty level by clicking on the "Normal" button.
  8. Click the "Begin Journey" button to start playing!

Installation instructions - Mac

  1. Download YourJourney_Mac_v0.40.app.zip file somewhere and run "YourJourney_v0.40". If it tells you it can't run the software because it can't verify there aren't any viruses, try again and tell it to Open anyways.
  2. Put your .jime scenario files (like The Watch at Weathertop by Noldorion) in the "Your Journey" folder in your User folder (Mac users), e.g. /Users/(your-user-name)/Your Journey/Weathertop.jime.
  3. Or put a Campaign .zip file like Shadows.of.Mirkwood.zip) in that same folder. The games should enable this Campaign the next time you run the game.
  4. Hit the "New Game" button at the title.
  5. Create a save slot on the next screen (just start typing when it asks for a name, then press enter).
  6. Load your level on the next screen.
  7. Choose your characters by clicking on the top half; change their names by clicking on the bottom half, typing, and pressing enter.
  8. Change the difficulty level by clicking on the "Normal" button.
  9. Click the "Begin Journey" button to start playing!

Installation Instructions - Android

Download the .apk to your Android device directly from the web, or transfer it over a USB connection from your computer. It may prompt you to install it immediately, or you may need to install it using your device's version of a Files app.

You may need to enable a setting to allow the installation of the .apk. A typical setting name (search for it in your Settings app) is "Install unknown apps".

When you install, it may also tell you that the app is old, unsupported, potentially dangerous, etc. On my Pixel 9, it says, "Unsafe app blocked". You then typically have to click a little text link like "More details" before it will give you the option to install it with "Install anyway".

You may be prompted to allow it to access files. It will say something like "Allow Your Journey to access photos, videos, music, and audio on this device?" You need to allow this or Your Journey won't work. It will be reading and writing to a folder on your "internal storage" location at /Documents/Your Journey.

On my Pixel 9, it is possible to give "All files access" in Settings > Apps > Special App Access > All files access > Your Journey > Allow. However, I did not need to do this for it to work. Some devices may require you to give extra permission to access the /Documents folder. You'll have to see what works for you.

The first time you run the Your Journey app, it should create a directory in /Documents/Your Journey. This is where you will want to add scenarios or campaigns that you download (.jime or .zip files). Your save games will also be saved in this directory.

The Scenario Editor

The editor is available in a separate repository.
