Hi, I'm Roger 👋

I'm a software engineer based in South Africa 🇿🇦, with experience spanning scientific modelling and financial systems.

Current focus

I'm currently working on independent projects exploring:

  • systems design for complex domains
  • evaluation frameworks (how to reliably assess strategies and decisions)
  • AI-assisted development workflows (e.g. Claude Code)

My main project is:

  • Synoculus — an exploration of trading strategy evaluation and decision systems

Background

My work has included:

  • scientific toolmaking for infectious disease modelling (HIV/TB)
  • financial charting and analytics systems (C++, JavaScript)
  • long-term use of Agile practices and test-driven development (TDD)

Tools & interests

  • Languages: C++, JavaScript, Julia (recent)
  • Editor: Emacs / Spacemacs
  • Interested in systems that sit at the intersection of technical, analytical, and conceptual domains
