Campaign themes

2016

Goldhamer's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • Economy/Jobs: No one should have to choose between taking care of a sick family member and losing their income. Aaron supports the Family Leave Insurance (“FAMLI”) Act to provide a way for workers to pay into an insurance fund that will provide salary replacement support if they have to leave their jobs to take care of a family member. No one should have to choose between taking care of a sick family member and losing their income. Aaron supports the Family Leave Insurance (“FAMLI”) Act to provide a way for workers to pay into an insurance fund that will provide salary replacement support if they have to leave their jobs to take care of a family member.
  • Social justice: Colorado’s women and families deserve the right to make their own reproductive choices with their doctor’s advice, not a politician’s interference. Colorado’s forward-thinking policies helped lower our teen birth rate by 40% in four years. Aaron believes in choice and acts on that belief, serving on the NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado (c)4 and Small Donor Committee Boards, and believes that wide availability of contraception and family planning services can help close the gender wage gap.
  • Education: Aaron is a certified secondary school teacher who believes the quality of our Democracy is tied directly to the quality of our public education system; if we’re going to ask our citizens to make decisions in political races involving complicated issues, we have to give them the tools to make informed decisions and resist lowest-common-denominator politics. Public schools have the potential to drive equality of opportunity, and Aaron supports an investment in our public schools as an investment in our social future.
  • Environment: Colorado is a beautiful place to live, and we should keep it that way while protecting our scarce resources. Goldhamer supports green jobs to keep people working while we do so. Moreover, Colorado’s sunshine offers many solar energy opportunities. Our topography lends itself to hydro-electric solutions to energy storage from variable-output solar and wind sources (excess wind and solar energy output can be stored by pumping water to higher elevations which can be released to generate hydroelectric power during high-demand periods). Finding meaningful and sustainable solutions for Colorado’s energy future will require a hard look at how Colorado’s Public Utilities Commission functions.
  • Immigration: Goldhamer believes that no human is illegal. The business community supports keeping hard-working immigrants in our country, attracting more immigrants, and providing immigrants with legal protections. Immigrants are too often the victims of wage theft but are less likely to report when they are the victim of a crime. Aaron supports Colorado’s recent laws permitting undocumented persons to receive driver’s licenses, as the measure both reduces hit and runs and allows people to live their lives outside social shadows. Aaron applauds Colorado’s recent reforms to permit in-state tuition rates for immigrants. Aaron will work to ensure that Colorado treats everyone fairly, regardless of documentation status.[1]
