My name is Niels Bundesen, I am from Denmark, and have been a LEGO Model Designer since May 2022. However, I started as an model design intern in 2017, wrote my M.Sc. thesis in Design and Innovation at the LEGO Group in 2019 and worked for 3 years as a Mechanical Engineer, developing new LEGO elements (bricks). This is the helmet of Jango Fett! Millions of clones would be created based on him and he was of course father of one very special clone, Boba Fett.
I had the pleasure of designing his helmet, working on making it as recognisable and true to the source as possible! People who know me, know I love Mandalorians, and getting to design one of the most iconic ones was brilliant! I think my favourite bit was using the 2x5 slope elements on the cheeks! It gives me the feeling like putting in the last piece in a puzzle!

Bricklist notes: This ship from the Starship Collection, is the first time we in LEGO Star Wars have made the Mon Calamari Starcruiser known as "Home One" - ever! To me, when hearing I was to design this model, I was excited and a tiny bit scared! Both because I had to design something we always thought was to hard to do!
I am very happy with the outcome, and I am happy to have captured the shapes and colours of the ship well! I have some easter eggs inside that reference (from front to back): Admiral Ackbar, LEGO Set 7754 and the meeting at the holotable that Hera and Ahsoka has on the ship in the Ahsoka show. And of course the little Nebulon B frigate that is as close to being in scale as possible!
It also comes with a new element, a 1x1x1 bow! And there is plenty of it in the set!
I hope you enjoy the build and having the Home One, for the first time ever! I know I am excited!

Bricklist notes: This set was actually quite the challenge! It did not follow our usual process, since the vehicles are not actually from Star Wars, but something we made up years back! So, when you have no reference, you ask the talented artists at the company to imagine, what the ships would actually look like in live action Star Wars, and then I designed the models with both the art and the old models in mind! The goal was to bring the models to a modern era, and try something new, other than just cleaning up an older model. And I think we succeeded! And you get a cool collection of figures, with 7 in total. 3 stormtroopers vs 3 rebel troopers, and then as a anniversary figure, we have QT-KT! This, for me, is an amazing character to add, based on the history behind the character and its inspiration in R2-KT! Hope you like the set and have fun!

Bricklist notes: This set is the my very first X-Wing and TIE-Fighter design!
Before I got this brief, I sketched what would become Jedi Bob's Starfighter, and I remember seeing this and thinking "I am glad I don't have to solve those challenges, because I do not think I am ready". After having finished my sketch, believing I would finish the starfighter, I was told if I couldn't give this model a try! I was hesitant, but figured it would be a great way to learn!
So, I started out trying to figure out how to do the switching of the wings. We were not sure if we could find a way to make the function happen, but slowly and steadily, we found a way! One I am very proud of!
Besides the main function, I tried to give the fighters a different look. The TIE got a more round front to align it with the TIE Bomber, and the X-wing got a new nose that I am very happy with.
I have heard some people not liking its longer landing gear, however, this was a requirement due to the click hinge on the wings. If they were shorter, the hinge could be stopped in between clicks, and that can deteriorate the element. So it was either no landing gear or a bit longer landing gear. And I like the play of having landing gear, so longer it was! ;) Hope you have a great time mashing up, and I hope to see fans make mash-up MOCs with the same interface!

Bricklist notes: The Droideka was a very fun set to design! I really wanted it to have functions, and quite quickly I found a way to build the shooting motion for the arms, so that they rock back and forward when "firing". The brown "shell" on the back started out being 8 modules wide, but it looked too wide and bulky when comparing to the reference images. So, I went first to 7 modules wide and finally 6 wide. It was both more accurate and easier to build than 7. However, it meant that I had less space to put in the click hinges and to make the shell sturdy, but I am very happy with the outcome!

When it comes to the folding up part, I did not try to integrate it at all at first, but both me and the rest of the team agreed that it would just be awesome to have that funtionality since it is so iconic! So, I had to redesign the shell even more, to make it even sturdier. This was because that even though we never say it can or recommend rolling the set, I imagined that some fans would try, and I didn't want them to have the set just fall apart.

We also prioritized the displayability of the model, meaning that an automated folding function was never really on the table, as it would have meant quite a lot of compromises on both the look and build experience.
Instead we agreed that following just a few steps to fold/unfold was a better compromise. It is after all an 18+ display set and not a playset.

The minifig scale droideka was a fun little challenge. I have used the same levers as "eyes" as the one from the early 2000's as a tribute! I mainly wanted to capture the sillouette in a better way than previous versions. My main issue with them were especially the brown "shell" being quite wide at 2 modules wide on the older versions, and I really wanted 1½ modules wide, but didnt manage to find a way and ended up with it being 1 stud wide, which I still believe is more accurate. The blasters were also a challenge, as the arms are slightly too long but I still think within an acceptable length. All in all, I am quite happy with it when comparing to the reference.

My favourite details include the element used for the "abs" of the droideka, the lipstick element for the eye-like sensors (Jason Zepantis inspired me on that!) and I also like that the hole shell and head is attached to the torso in just one place!

Bricklist notes: This is the first set that I designed that is set for ages 18+. It was a fun design process, especially figuring out the flow of building and how to make the shallow angles of the ships panels in a sturdy way! The set has no stickers, mainly because of the possibility of repetition of those printed elements. The only prints that are used once in the build is the cockpit, the plaque and the 1x1 tile with the holo chess like print. But that printed element was actually first used in the Mars Rover Perseverance from LEGO Technic.
The graphics were designed by Martin Fink and the building instructions by Susan Due. A big thanks to them!

Bricklist notes: This set was both fun and challenging to design, since it is a small, fun, starfighter, but also had to be an inprovement from set 75168. The main way for me to approach this, was to make the fighter much more accurate in proportions, using as little technic as I could for the model, and still make the fighter stable enough for 8 year olds to swoosh around with. An easter-egg is that this is the first model I designed, that includes an element I designed as an engineer! It was for attaching the wings to the fusulage; the hinge plate (element 1927).

This set is one of two models that I call my first sets (the other is 75363). Both sets launched on August 1st 2023.

Bricklist notes: It is very normal for new designers to create models, when they first get hired, for 6-9 year olds. This way we get to learn how to design for young children, who needs to be able to build the models all by themselves. This is one of those models. I am especially happy with how the engines got attached to the wings, using the cog wheel with axle element. Also, being a huge mandalorian fan, and my favorite ship being the N-1 Starfighter, this model was the perfect start for me!

This set is one of two models that I call my first sets (the other is 75360). Both sets launched on August 1st 2023.
