    OpenStreetMap/User Interface Design:

Ganz unten findet man dann mehrere Checkboxen.

It's really something that my e-reader has better and more usable scrollbars than most desktop interfaces (Windows, MacOS, and Gnome). :/

The scrollbar is thin, but the grabbable region is large (kind of like the default in KDE), and easy to manipulate directly with your finger. This is actually better than #iOS' implementation, and many #Android apps.

The dictionary entry is shown for "saloon," and there is a thin, but very usable scrollbar on the right side of the dictionary pop-up.

                Ugh, LinkedIn is the worst!

I try to disable all the notifications that aren't directly relevant to me, but they keep inventing new kinds of notifications that I have to opt out of! So annoying.

Trying to do that this morning, I see they have "simplified and regrouped" their notification settings, which is hilarious, because they're showing me a list of 14 top-level notification categories, each with its own tree of sub-categories beneath it. There must be a few dozen different categories of notification, each with multiple options within.

I think I found the one I needed to turn off? I have no idea. This is actively hostile UX.

A screenshot of a user interface from LinkedIn. At the top is a notice saying "Your notification settings are regrouped and simplified," followed by a list of 14 different categories of notifications, each with an arrow leading to a tree of sub-categories with arrows that lead to actual notification settings.

Y’all. I made this cute little animation to show that a link was successfully copied. I use it on my writing site.

It’s not monumental, but I really like it. My son said it feels “very satisfying.”

Alt...A link icon is visible near part of a date component. A mouse cursor hovers over the icon, then clicks it. The click triggers an animation that makes the icon shrink in size then get replaced with a green check mark in a circle that radiates outward one time. After 2 seconds, the icon animates back to its original state.

Just tried to read an Economist article. This was the "privacy" popup. After 30 seconds of staring I still had no fucking clue what "off" and "on" meant. I eventually forced myself to read carefully and realized I should press "on" (and had to think about which button position was "on").

Please give me a simple GDPR-style "accept/reject" button with some confidence in what the "reject" button means (via laws).

I don't need to read any article that much. Bye.

A popup on The Economist site about "managing your data." This is what you get when you click "manage cookies" instead of whatever misleading button/link apparently gives them full run of your browser.

"We and our marketing, analytics ,and advertising partners collect personal information..." blah blah.

In the wall o'text I didn't notice for about a minute "you can ask us not to share your data with our partners by toggling ON below."

(more blah blah)

"Do not sell or share [off on]"

Then "certain parties to which we sell or share personal information may re-sell or re-share your personal information... to opt out... visit their digital properties..."

Yeah, fuck everything about this.

You can't hide behind whizbang styling when your medium is text. It becomes obvious that the copy is the tip of the iceberg. The rest of the work is in the information architecture that lies beneath. You stop thinking in screens, and start thinking in systems.

UI/copy is just a touchpoint of the system. You still have to design the system underneath and between the touchpoints.

AI usage numbers are dismal, and surveys repeatedly show large majorities of people do not want these features.
