Just finished reading “Empire of AI” by Karen Hao, the story of the rise of OpenAI, how it went from non-profit to for-profit, and the insane speed with which AI has become so pervasive. Strikes the right tone of caution re: safety and governance. The multi-billion dollar investments and valuations of these companies is mad. Good read especially if you’re interested in the topic but remain skeptical of those running it.

Хорошо, что университетов разных много, а не один только Калифорнийский Государственный. И все эти университеты встречают этот дизрапшин по разному. CSU вот решил снюхаться с OpenAI. Но другие пойдут другим путём. Что из всего этого выгорит, покажет время. И деньги. В конце концов, любой университет, это коммерческое предприятие, которое продаёт образование. Если такое образование окажется ценным для экономики, то деньги в такой университет потекут. Если нет, то ну чтож, деньги потекут в другой университет, который сделал ставку на что-то другие.
Мы сейчас, никто из нас, не знаем, какая ставка окажется правильной. Это уже, как карты лягут.
Но да, как действует OpenAI, мне крайне не нравится. OpenAI вовсе не опен, и ChatGPT это всего лишь LLM, который ещё не AI. Но как бы то ни было, Сэм Альтман хочет многа деняк. И он их, сука, получает.

He puts into clear terms what had previously been an unarticulated, creeping suspicion I had about #GenAI. Clearly there are many angles from which to come at what's going on with #AI #hype , but I appreciate this one quite a bit.
