I'm in something like 13 different communities, mostly for various groups.

Lots of discussion in many about ICE.

Discussions about leaving slack due its ties to , who are supporting ICE?

Nothing.

Beberapa hari kepikiran kenapa gak ada yang bikin alternatif Discord/Slack tapi berbasis XMPP alih-alih bikin protokol sendiri.

Ternyata ada, cuma saya yang gak tahu 😌

I like how people are recommending a bunch of FLOSS messengers now, its an opportunity to check out underrated projects like I just a few minutes ago learned about the FLOSS project Quiet (tryquiet.org) from a discord community trying to relocate.

The website says its all E2EE P2P with tor built in, channels like slack/discord, no email or phone number required. Unfortunately no quantum resistant encryption on the roadmap so I still would recommend SimpleX for general purpose instant messaging but Tor-by-default and P2P are genuine advantages over Simplex

If you found this post interesting you might also be interested in these decentralised encrypted messengers with various pros and cons compared to eachother:

          Quest to the Fediverse:

What are good Open Source Slack or Discord alternatives?

And what are the features you see as mandatory for a team communication platform?

Here I have to confess that I myself never got the hang of Slack. I always felt overwhelmed. So I feel completely unqualified for judging alternatives 🤪

Stuff like this is so icky to me. Who is "so glad" I'm back? Slackbot? Not possible. Does this make me feel valued or thought about? Not in the slightest.

If you receive a message from me that says "Happy New Year!" it is because I typed 16 whole-ass letters and hit enter to send it to you. Why would I outsource that?

And if I receive a low-effort, one-click "Happy New Year!" from a colleague do I feel flattered? Like they were thinking of me? No.

I just can't figure out who gets positive vibes from this, so much so that they paid developers to build it.

Screen capture of a Slack pop-up window. The left half is a character based on the Slack logo, with a party hat and a noisemaker in its mouth. The right side is text that says: "Happy New Year, Paco. So glad you're back.
Celebrate how far you and your team have come - from the big wins to the small triumphs (like remembering to unmute yourself in meetings). Warm regards, Slackbot This week, you can send a greeting just like this one to make someone's day a little brighter." There's a little "Send a Greeting" button at the bottom.

Slack's signin procedure is the digital equivalent of boarding an airplane, "security"wise.

One of my favorite "security challenges" is the "verify your email" one. By this point my email has been verified so many times it should have top secret clearance.

New verbosity settings for messages are now widely available in , under the category of preferences. You can now control which parts of messages are spoken and in what order.

As part of this change, you'll also find that recent replies in threads now have relative timestamps (e.g. "just now" or "2 minutes ago") instead of absolute ones. This update brings the screen reader experience in line with the visual interface, with absolute timestamps still being used outside of threads.

If you have suggestions or run into problems, please use the /feedback command and mention that you use a screen reader. Alternatively I'm also happy to pass along any issues if I can reproduce them.

Hudson Rock reports that an infostealer infection led to unauthorized access to Nikkei’s Slack workspace, affecting over 17K employees and partners.

The malware, originating from a Japanese endpoint, captured valid credentials and allowed attackers to browse internal chats and metadata.

No source data leaked - but the case reinforces how endpoint infections remain the root cause of major collaboration breaches.
