It is one of the busiest ports in the world, in all categories of shipping movements, cargo handled and passengers carried. In 1841, after the arrival of a British Royal Navy ship, the colonization of Hong Kong began, and ten years later the port received the name of Victoria, in honor of the queen. In 1997 the United Kingdom ceded sovereignty of Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China.

Nelson's Dockyard is a cultural heritage site and marina in English Harbour, located in Saint Paul Parish on the island of Antigua. It is part of Nelson's Dockyard National Park, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is named after Admiral Horatio Nelson, who lived in the Royal Navy Dockyard from 1784 through 1787. After England acquired colonial British Antigua and Barbuda in 1632, the English Harbour became a focal point for the establishment of a naval base. Its position on the south side of Antigua island facilitated the monitoring of the neighbouring French island of Guadeloupe. Construction of the modern Naval Dockyard began in the 1740s. The Naval Officer's and Clerk's House was built in 1855 and is now home to the Dockyard Museum. In 1889 the Royal Navy abandoned the dockyard, and it fell into decay. The Society of the Friends of English Harbour began restoration of the dockyard in 1951, and a decade later it was opened to the public.

The lake is formed by the damming of two rivers, Möhne and Heve, and with its four basins stores as much as 135 million cubic meters of water. The 650 m (2,132.5 ft) dam was built between 1908 and 1913, and when it opened it was the longest in Europe. This water complex was conceived to help control flooding, regulate water levels in the Ruhr River, and generate hydroelectric power. The dam was bombed by RAF during Operation Chastise on the night of May 16/17, 1943: a 77m by 22m breach was opened and the ensuing massive flood wave killed more than 1,570 people. Lake Möhne is designated as a European bird sanctuary in the Natura 2000 system of protected areas of the European Union.

Coral Island (sometimes called Pharaoh's Island) is a rocky islet that now belongs to Egypt, about 250 m ( 820 ft) to the east to the coast of the Sinai Peninsula in the Gulf of Eilat (or Aqaba), at the northern end of the Red Sea, and 13 km (8.1 mi) southwest of modern Eilat (Israel). It is made of solid granite. Some scholars identify this island port with the biblical Ezion-Geber. A wall of casemates with towers surrounding the island at the height of the coast, including the port, has not yet been able to be dated, and the ruins of a castle probably correspond to an Ayyubid fortification of the 12th and 13th centuries.
