Laws of the process

It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.
Adding manpower to a late software project makes it later.
Organizations which design systems (in the broad sense used here) are constrained
to produce designs which are copies of the communication structures of these organizations.
Every application has an inherent amount of irreducible complexity.
The only question is: Who will have to deal with it — the user,
the application developer, or the platform developer?
In any dispute the intensity of feeling is
inversely proportional to the value of the issues at stake.
1. Each unit should have only limited knowledge about other units: only units "closely" related to the current unit.
2. Each unit should only talk to its friends; don't talk to strangers.
3. Only talk to your immediate friends.
