I have abandoned this fork because Linar is not really helpfull in having a open discussions on thoughts and changes on SoftRF. I appreciate his work thoughbut he does not want to communicate on any proposals, thoughts and idea's for integration in other devices.
For a good fork of SoftRF I can highly recommend https://github.com/moshe-braner/SoftRF it contains various fixes and new ideas that are beening used by different soaring clubs.
Features of this fork including...
Beyond Lyusupov's version 1.0:
- Can set aircraft ID for self, ID to ignore, and ID to follow
- Support 3-level collision alarms via buzzer
- Can configure two simultaneous NMEA output destinations
- Settable baud rate for serial output
- Estimates wind while circling, uses for collision prediction
- Corrected frequency hopping and time slots
- Airborne devices relay radio packets from landed aircraft
- Louder buzzer via 2-pin differential drive, or external
- Includes strobe-control logic within SoftRF
- Can adjust SoftRF settings within T-Echo (without an app)
- Modified version of SkyView
- SkyStrobe - a controller for a visibility strobe (and more)
- Documentation files.
- vMB09z: further compatibility improvements in transmissions and collision prediction
- Collision-danger traffic VOICE warnings! (not just beeps)
- Option to connect to ambient WiFi network instead of creating one
- Option to send data as TCP client instead of TCP server
- Specify server's IP address for TCP client, and choice of 2 ports
- Ability to use WiFi TCP & UDP NMEA outputs simultaneously
- These new WiFi options allow wireless output to XCvario
IMPORTANT: All modifications are provided only in the source code so you need to be familiar with Arduino to compile and flash it for your platform. You need to install Arduino IDE (v1.8 or later) and add the following two entries into the Additional Board Manager URLs:
https://adafruit.github.io/arduino-board-index/package_adafruit_index.jsonhttps://raw.githubusercontent.com/espressif/arduino-esp32/gh-pages/package_esp32_index.json
For the T-Beam you need to select the ESP32 Dev Module board, for the T-Echo the Nordic nRF52840 DK board. For more details please read the related upstream WiKi section.
T-Beam modifications:
- u-blox GPS configuration:
- enable GSA, GSV, VTG
- enable GPS, GALILEO, BEIDOU and SBAS
- enable NMEA extended
- default connection with Stratux: USB
- WiFi disabled to avoid conflicts with Stratux WiFi
- LEGACY traffic messages over serial connection are disabled (to relax data rate, Stratux receives LEGACY directly anyhow)
T-Echo modifications:
- L76K GPS configuration:
- enable GSA, GSV, VTG
- enable GPS, GLONASS and BEIDOU
- NMEA output through USB
- default connection with Stratux: USB
- LK8EX1 and LEGACY traffic messages over serial connection are disabled (to relax data rate, Stratux receives LEGACY directly anyhow)
LIMITATIONS:
- GPS update rate is limited to 1 Hz in SoftRF, which is good enough for Stratux except when using GPS as a pseudo AHRS
- the L76K only supports the NMEA "strict" protocol version, therefore some extended satellite information (like elevation, azimut and numbering) is not provided for some satellites and therefore the GPS info page in Stratux is incomplete. Furthermore BEIDOU satellites are not displayed at all but are in fact used and counted for "in solution"
- currently only the T-Echo as a Baro source for Stratux is supported
Recommendations (be careful as you may render your device unusable):
- load OGN database for T-Beam: https://github.com/lyusupov/SoftRF/wiki/Badge-Edition.-Aircrafts-database
- modify SoftRF settings (e.g. Protocol or Aircraft type) through serial console commands: http://soaringweather.no-ip.info/SoftRF/settings.html
- Wearable
- Plug-and-Play
- Portable
- Classic 2.25 inch instrument
- Certified (CE/FCC)
- Wireless 2.7 inch E-Ink display
- can receive ADS-B air traffic
- 978 UAT
- 1090 ES
- 1090 ES and/or 978 UAT
- can operate multiple protocols at the same time
- Weatherproof
- Lego Edition

1 - it is necessary for a reader to distinguish the difference between statement "compatible" and statement "fully compatible".
SoftRF implements only a reasonable minimum of the protocols specs. No "bells and whistles" so far.
2 - FANET+ can not receive FLARM. However it is able to transmit it.
3 - valid for Prime Mark II , Dongle , Mini , Badge , Bracelet , Academy , Octave , Lego and Balkan Editions; valid for Standalone , UAV and Uni Editions with optional DIY SoftRF LoRa RF module
4 - Reception of traffic 'downlink' frames only. Valid for Uni Edition alone and for Standalone Edition with optional DIY SoftRF UAT module
5 - Reception of traffic 'downlink' frames only. Valid for ES Edition
6 - also known as "raw ADS-B"
