I am Stephen Baraka, a Software Engineering and finance student from Kenya with a strong interest in technology, finance, and problem-solving. As a Finance and Accounting student my journey in technology began with a curiosity about how software systems work and how they can be used to solve real-world challenges.
Through academic studies, personal projects, and continuous self-learning, I have been developing skills in programming, software development, databases, and system design. Currently, I am focused on strengthening my Software Engineering foundation while exploring areas such as Financial Technology (FinTech), Artificial Intelligence, and data-driven systems.
Over the next few years, my goal is to specialize in Financial Software Engineering — combining software development with financial systems, data analysis, and intelligent decision-making. I am particularly interested in building applications that support financial operations, automate processes, analyze data, manage risk, and create value for businesses and individuals.
I am fascinated by how technology is transforming the financial industry, from digital banking and payment systems to investment platforms and financial analytics. My ambition is to contribute to this transformation by building reliable, scalable, and intelligent financial software solutions. I believe that strong engineering, analytical thinking, and continuous learning are the foundations for creating technology that makes a meaningful impact. 🚀
Outside of engineering, I have developed a strong personal interest in investing, financial markets, and business analysis, mainly focused on personal portfolio growth and long-term learning. I have also studied concepts such as business models, value creation, SWOT analysis, customer segmentation, value propositions, and marketing strategy. This has helped me become more analytical and aware of risk when making decisions.
I also have experience in graphic design, creating visual assets such as banners, music covers, video covers, thumbnails, and digital content for personal projects, group initiatives, and public services.
On a personal level, I consider myself competitive, disciplined, and detail-oriented. I care about doing things properly, but I also try to stay humble, empathetic, and open to learning from the people around me.
A big part of this mindset comes from my experience competing in esports titles such as Overwatch, Counter-Strike, Fortnite (PC), Fortnite (Console), Clash Royale, and others. Competitive gaming taught me the importance of discipline, consistency, emotional control, teamwork, and adaptability under pressure.
It also helped me understand how to work with different personalities, communicate effectively, and contribute to a team environment where everyone performs at their best.
Beyond technology, I am also interested in fashion, music, cinema, film criticism, social media, digital trends, and visual culture. These interests influence the way I approach design, branding, creativity, storytelling, and user experience.
