ANTAR is a research initiative and ground-up platform that treats the home as a primary computing domain rather than a peripheral of someone else's cloud. It is built to deliver sovereignty, privacy, and deterministic control entirely to the resident, with zero dependence on external infrastructure for core functionality.
Every commercially available smart home platform routes authority, data, and automation through external servers — infrastructure the resident neither owns nor controls. This produces three compounding systemic failures:
| Failure | Description |
|---|---|
| 👁️ Privacy Erosion | Home behavior data is continuously uploaded to third-party servers, where it is exposed to surveillance, monetization, and analysis. |
| 🔗 Fragility & Vendor Lock-in | Internet outages, API deprecations, and vendor shutdowns cause core home systems to fail. A home should never stop working because a company changed its pricing model. |
| 🔓 Loss of Authority | Users have no meaningful control over who acts on their data or their devices — authority lies with the external platform, not the resident. |
ANTAR challenges the conventional model at the architectural level. It is a fully local-first smart home infrastructure where sovereignty, privacy, and deterministic control belong entirely to the home's residents. The platform operates with zero dependence on cloud services for core functionality, ensuring that all data, authority, and automation remain within the physical boundary of the residence.
- 🔑 Passkey-Based Auth Engine — Authentication is built on passkeys rather than passwords or external identity providers, giving residents phishing-resistant, cryptographic control over access.
- 🧱 Strict Network Segmentation — The network is locked into enforced segments, isolating device classes and services from one another so a compromise in one segment cannot propagate across the residence.
- 💾 NAS Media Storage — All media assets are stored and indexed on the residence's own NAS, with no reliance on third-party cloud storage or streaming providers for the underlying library.
- 📺 Local Media Streaming — Media is transcoded and streamed entirely within the home network, delivering a native streaming experience without any data leaving the residence.
- 🎙️ Privacy-Preserving Voice Interaction — On-device language models handle natural language interaction. No query, context, or personal data ever leaves the device for external inference.
- 🚶 Ambient Edge Orchestration — A proximity-aware, intent-following orchestration layer. As an occupant moves through zones in the home, their active experience (e.g., media playback) transitions with them to the nearest output element via passive sensor fusion — governed entirely locally, with no cloud arbitration.
- 🏰 Establish Sovereign Control — Ensure the infrastructure people depend on most answers only to them.
- 🔒 Enforce Zero Implicit Trust — Operate every user, device, and service on least-privilege principles, authenticated natively without external identity providers.
- ☁️ Eliminate Cloud Dependency — Provide a fully functional, end-to-end automated environment that operates flawlessly without internet connectivity.
- 🏗️ Guarantee Privacy by Architecture — Make privacy a physical fact of the system's design, not a corporate policy subject to change.
This initiative addresses a gap between academic literature on edge computing and the practical reality of home infrastructure. In an era of rising data breaches and aggressive data monetization, ANTAR demonstrates that ambient intelligence does not require surveillance.
Beyond residential infrastructure, this reference architecture is designed to scale directly into enterprise workplaces and high-assurance or defense-grade environments where data sovereignty and exposure prevention are non-negotiable.
